I was hired at a company and in my first week stopped someone from mixing two chemicals together that would be explosive. I then went through all our chemicals and separated them accordingly so there could be no accidents.
My boss said it's a good thing we have an explosives expert on staff. I said I'm not an expert, really just an explosives enthusiast

a lot of job listings these days aren't real. the company is planning to promote internally for the position, or the hiring manager already has some people they know in mind, but company policy says they have to try to fill it from a normal hire first, so they make a listing and completely ignore all the applicants, with maybe a quick check to see if they've suckered someone way overqualified for their lousy pay rate

As long as you and your family is okay things are good. We can not fault you for having a life. Thank you for coming back.

The student knowing more than the "expert" happens all the time... nepotism and/or having the right credentials and the employer not knowing better...

I have 3 degrees and 6 years of experience in my field. I am well known and highly requested. As soon as I started applying for full time jobs, everyone ghosted me. Its not just you, companies do not want to hire people.

You mentioned being in confession at the start and all I could think is "3 hail Marys and one new upload my son!" XD

Gotta love seeing help wanted signs and posts everywhere. Employers just refuse to hire or properly train staff

My favorite gripe. Radar doesn't work in O.F.F. mode. I really don't think anything works in OFF mode.

Me again commenting Unca John... For reasons I will not go into here, at 48 yrs. old I needed to leave everything behind and move back home with my parents. I had then 25+ years in carpentry, renovation, property management, etc. experience. BUT I had been living in the back country where trade tickets, HR reports, Trade school certifications, etc. meant little. I spent 9 months where almost no one would consider me due to my lack of Govt. accreditations or "Correct" references. I did get an awful job in a warehouse for a furniture seller, which lead to a job as a property manager where I worked until retirement. Bottom line? I feel for you Sir: been there, done that, can't afford the T shirt. It all did work out in the end for me, but the journey sucked.

The best refusals are you are too experienced but the other is you are under-qualified - yeah that's because we are old and we were not going on training courses for qualifications as we were too busy.

SAAS = Software As A Service, just another of the good old buzzwords used to charge extra. ;)

I was sent out on declotting of IV line. Before utilizing the expensive and dangerous declotting agent. (I'm home health RN) I have learned as a part my assessment to change the dressing on peripherally inserted central catheter(picc)
I have found that fixes the problem 4 out of 5 times.

Had a new director who as a "contractor" had tried to design a system which was doomed from the outset. Had someone bothered to ask me I would have provided the work I had already done and the limitations. Director hated me. My system was modified (usually by what I advised) to do a lot of the work. But How the hell can I maintain a network, be the only one who knows the old machines, how anything works (we relocated and most of the staff left) whilst bringing forward changes (best excuse from a manager was "it looks too good" - whilst fixing a spreadsheet on the Chief Execs PC I accidentally let it slip - he left the office for a few minutes and told me to implement the "it looks too good"). Some of my changes were loved by the staff (a simple change of putting a colored divider in the printouts so they knew where to separate them saved hours) - chief exec was happy I cut the overtime by at least 50% for these jobs. I was left with only one choice take redundancy and be told of the ensuing problems

Good luck on the job search! Most HR nowadays doesn't bother looking at applications; they have an algorithm dig through and pick some out. If it doesn't find the right keywords, it ignores the resume. Maybe have someone look over your resume for terms the employer might be searching for?

Most IT issues resolve down to either an ID-10-T or PEBCAK. I usually recommend percussive maintenance until proper information throughput is restored.

I have a mantra that I repeat regularly after working IT for a bit.
"Start with the basics"

And after working IT for a while, I learned:
"Once it's fixed, stop." Digging into why could result in a permanent, catastrophic failure

I trained a manager to stop staff making permanent changes, I was, in theory, the only one (other than the manager) making changes to screen setups so when a programmer added an item it disappeared. OK he asked me afterwards and I changed the settings temporarily to carry out the update then reverted the settings to prevent other permanent changes. Staff used to play havoc with the layouts but a reboot and all settings were back to what the manager had defined

the first one, the software should fail-safe as in not refreshing image on reboot rather then effectively bricking the machine when license expired
