A version I've heard is, "When you make something foolproof, along comes smarter fools."

Nothing is foolproof to a talented fool.

The idiot thing. For some reason the joke from Robin Williams where he says "If someone came up with a pill where you can deink without getting drunk. Us alcoholics would go "What if you take two?" No."

I like the line "Nothing is foolproof, fools are too damn ingenious".

Never tell me that it's "idiot proof" - no such thing!

Tell Nickel that it's your chair, and if he doesn't like it, then he can deal with it. 😂

I'm from the UK, have worked in legal areas in the past and have never heard the term 'Dock Officer'. We call them Bailiffs here in the UK too. Some are Court Appointed Bailiffs, who tend to have more authority. After searching the HM Courts website, they state that a Dock Officer is 'responsible for preparing the court and making sure that everything is in the right place, at the right time and that everybody involved in the hearing is there.' That role has nothing to do with Bailiffs.

Thinking of "universe makes a bigger idiot" with the invention of fire ... they didn't have OSHA then ... I think I'd prefer thinking about something else.

_Reprography:_ the art or process of copying, reprinting, or reproducing printed material.

Mind you, there is a big worry about people using QR codes and other things to hack your electronics, and so there is a lot of push-back about using them.

Personally i keep my wi-fi, bluetooth, qr code scanner, mobile hotspot, etc. always off unless I'm actually using them.

Heck, I'm paranoid enough that i check if a camera light is on or not. Even on my phone.

Back when I was in the Navy they came out with a paint chipping tool they swore was "sailor proof" (no such thing exists). It was an electrical, hand-held machine with a bunch of "knuckles" on several wheels arranged on an axle. Shortly after they were issued to the fleet, they started coming in with burnt out motors and no one could figure out why until... they sent out investigators. It turned out the sailors using them to chip paint would get long extension cords, sit on the machines, turn them on and RACE down the decks on them. NOTHING is sailor proof.

I plan to share some stories from my experience in Tech Support, having worked in both the Executive and Judicial branches. But I can share just how challenging AV/IT Support in courts can be. Printers often fail when clerks are assisting people at the windows. Clerks message me, asking me to come down to Courtroom X, but upon arrival, the Judge is unaware of my visit. I end up waiting for 10 minutes, on call, only to discover it started working or the Judge decided to proceed without me. The most difficult part is attempting to perform tasks while court proceedings are ongoing. To make matters worse, informing the clerks that I require more time can upset most judges. At my workplace, there are tech-savvy judges who understand the technology, while others do not. The courthouse where I work was built in 2009 but is equipped with technology from 2006.

General rule, in IT support, don't assume that the person you're talking to has any amount of knowledge about their computer, phone or other devices. If you treat everyone like a user who needs most everything spelled out, the worst is that someone may get upset until you explain that you don't want to assume their level of knowledge or understanding and just try to explain things to everyone the same. The more tech-literate users I've had were thankful that I wasn't assuming everyone didn't have my level of understanding.

Have to scan a QR code, with a phone work *isn't* paying for is exactly the sort of techno babble crap that's driven me back to a dumb-phone.
They want me to use a smartphone for MFA, they can fecking buy it.
There's literally no law says I have to have a cell-phone (or land-line) AT ALL.
