5:24 In order to "mark seam", make sure you have the "edge seleted" (middle box on the top, on the right of Edit mode. Or just press "2".

I also like the fact that you're working in the latest solid version of Blender as that's the one we're using in school. For all of you having problems "finding" the island selection in the UV-Editor...


Just use the Face-Selection-Mode, hoover over the island and press "L".

Painted an entire object, took a day to do it and some parts were so messy because of stretched UVs. When my friend unwrapped the same mesh in Maya it was so clean.

Today I learned the importance of applying mesh scale before unwrapping. Would have saved me A LOT of time.
