Remember, a cult doesn’t always have just one leader, it can have a group of men at the top. Its an outdated concept if anyone says that a cult has just one leader

This is pretty much the same thing as being in a relationship with a narcissist.

I would only add that most cults shower new recruits with affection, praise and gifts. This makes the new recruit feel obligated to their new “family”. Also, cults always make it difficult to leave - even the first meeting. One tactic is for the cult to insist you remove your shoes. It’s hard to leave a place without your shoes. Beware of ANYTHING that makes it difficult to leave, such as leaving your keys, phone, or anything you need in order to leave quickly.

Definitely the Mormon church. I can’t believe I didn’t see these clear signs back when I was a member. I’m so much happier since I got out

Oh wow. This is helpful. I have noticed that some Christian denominations are better than others. The worst ones remind me of cults. I highly recommend avoiding these groups. For those inside, I recommend getting the heck out. If one really wanted to be Christian I highly recommend being in another denomination. Something mainstream is a safe bet, like Catholic or Babtist. I like both groups. I also like Quakers, Lutherins and Anglicans. One big recommendation I would give to a Christian is to do your own homework. Research over different denominations. Then pick out the ones that suit you best. It doesn't have to be the same one you grew up with. There are four groupings of the worst Christian groups. They are the ones that seem like cults to me. I will list them from best to worst. The first is Mormons. The second is Christian Science. The third is Millerites. This group includes Seventh Day Adventists and Jehovah's Witnesses. The fourth is Mennonites. This includes regular Mennonites as well as Amish and Hutterites. I had a suspicion that all these groups were cults. They act just like cults outside Christianity. Once I read the comment section, I see that I wasn't alone. There are quite a few comments about Christian groups being cults. They tend to be about the ones I listed here. Most of the four groups was mentioned at least one. The only exception is Mennonites. I think that is because they wouldn't be on YouTube at all. They are that restrictive and isolating. There is plenty of video about the Mennonites. However it is usually an outsider depicting the Mennonties in video. They can even go to Mennonite communities to film. I did see an interview with an ex Amish woman. My favorite is the Amish Paradise music video, and that is a parody.

It is intriguing that the video mentions doomsday prophesy as a red flag for a cult. I was suspecting the same thing. It is fine to read the Bible and cover Revelation like any other book. It is another to be so obsessed with it. Like dude, can't you focus on the happier parts like Heaven or Jesus miracles? The Millarites are really into this kind of thing. They are nuts! They don't mistreat thier followers quite as badly as the Mennonites. However thier beliefs are the most difficult to justify. Of the two main Millerite groups, the Jehovas Witnesses are worse because they really pileling on the rules. Picture this. Some one is in thier home minding thier own buissness. Then they get a knock on thier front door. They answer the door to find an missionary. The missionary said. "The end is near. Join us or you will be destroyed in the Apocalyspe. Come with us to the new earthly paradise. We can have Garden of Eden all over again. By the way, you will have to behave real good in the meantime. So you aren't allowed to have holidays, birthdays, blood transfusions, college, outside friends and other things. Hang tight, because the paradise is so worth it and it will come so soon." Yeah, if someone said that to me, I would run. I would just refuse and shut the door. The bravest people could engage with the missionary. They can help access resources that help get out of the religion. I am not sure if such resources exist, but they should. Also most Christians celebrate Christmas and Easter in thier church and get away with it. They get away with murder. To forbid such a thing is unreasonable. Come on! These Jehovas Witnesses are very much bonkers!
