This is a sermon excerpt from the full sermon titled: "What Is Sanctification?" (preached Sunday evening on February 11, 1979 at the First Baptist Church of Hammond, Indiana) by Pastor Jack Hyles.

In this one minute excerpt, Dr. Hyles emphasizes the Bible truth that you don't have to repent of your sins to be saved, you simply need to repent of your UNBELIEF. Hebrews 6:1 tells us to repent from "DEAD WORKS," not from our sins. 2nd Timothy 2:25 says to repent to the acknowledging of "THE TRUTH," not from your sins. Nowhere does the inspired King James Bible say to repent "of your sins" or to "turn from your sins" to receive God's free gift of eternal life. To be saved, you simply change your mind (repent) to acknowledge that you are a guilty sinner in God's sight, and you receive Jesus' sacrifice on the cross as full payment for your sins, believing that He was buried, but then physically raised up from the dead three days later. This is "the Gospel" by which all who BELIEVE IT are saved.

God says that we are sinners and that no amount of good works or behavioral changes on our part could ever make us holy enough to enter heaven. God sent His Son to pay for all of our sins. Jesus paid for our crimes by dying on the cross for us all. His dead body was buried in a grave. On the third day, Jesus arose from the dead.

The instant you believe this, He knows it and He saves you. “Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that believeth on Me hath everlasting life”(John 6:47). The free gift is based solely upon your trust in what Jesus did for you and has nothing at all to do with what you do for Him. “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9).
