There's a lot of doctrine and tradition of which we may have differing beliefs and opinions, thank you Pastor for making sure we get ahold of the one thing that we need to get right, that's why it's called GOOD NEWS.

The issue is that they think the lessons of Him before the cross still apply (rich young ruler “keep the law to be saved”, etc etc). Only John records His words post-resurrection.

Read the Bible yourself and find out the true message. The road is difficult. You must pick up your cross and follow Him. Faith without works is dead - James chapter 2.
When you stand at the judgement seat of Christ this pastor will not be there to defend you. Only your own faith and deeds in this lifetime will defend you.
Thats why Paul tells us to work out our own salvation with fear and trembling.
