So many of you might want to do a little research into what actually happened. The US didn't invade Somalia, the US didn't "go into Somalia". It was the SECOND phase of a UNITED NATIONS peace keeping mission the the UNITED NATIONS voted on and agreed to take part in. There were 40 nations involved in this peace keeping mission because what was already going on in Somalia was nothing more than genocide.. With tens of thousands of by some estimates well over100, 000 civilians being killed by gunfire or starvation. Part of the US involvement was to stop Adid's malitia from killing aid workers and stealing food meamt for civilians to feed his troops.

If you want to bitch about troops being in Somalia then take it up with the united nations who voted on the involvement including many of Somalia's neighbors who were having trouble supporting refugees fleeing Somalia. But hey I'm sure me using the actual facts wont change your options and just fire you up more.

My dad was deployed to Somalia in 1993. For Christmas one year, my mom got him the movie, black hawk down. She didn't know he was there, because he never talked about his service. It's still wrapped in the cellophane to this day.

The Malaysian Army rescued those trapped U.S soldiers, lost one of their own men.Otherwise most US soldiers won't come out alive that day.Kudos to Malaysian Army..

I remember watching the aftermath of this on TV when I was in 11th grade. I had already decided that I was joining the Army at that point but THIS is what made me decide to be an Operator. I served proudly from 1996 to 2017. Rest In Peace Brothers.🍻

My Dad was a part of that force who went to rescue the US soldiers. He was a Major in Pakistan Army and pilot of Cobra gunship helicopter and giving air cover to QRF comprising of Pakistani and Malaysian Army who were trying to reach to the US positions. It was a tough battle. He sometimes tells us a stories what happened there that day.
He once told us how he destroyed the jeep mounted anti tank weapon having 3 men 1 women and a small baby on it. They were using the women and children as a human shield. He remember that time when he was ordered to destroy that jeep and he refused. He told me that when I saw a baby you came in my mind because at that time I was just 2 years old. Somalis fired a round of RR on the Malaysian APC wounding 1 Pakistani Soldier and few Malaysian Soldiers. He remember then how he fired the TOW Missile while sitting on a Gunner seat. It was a difficult time of his life which he still remember. He told me how his hand was Shuddering. War is not easy. War is deadly. RIP to all the soldiers of every country who lost their lives in Somalia.

Donovan Briley was a classmate of my sister. The city named a street in his honor that parallels the National Gaurd camp just outside our home town. Rest easy, sir!

Sitting here, getting close to the New Year of 2022; phenomenal that this footage is from nearly 30 years ago. I’ve seen the movie countless number of times, such a great film, and an ode to those who fought in the Mog

I was there 28 years ago on Sword base. Every year on Oct 3rd I pull out my photo album and remember the good and the bad times I experienced there. I have a drink and spill some for the fallen brothers. I can still remember my engagements there so vividly like it was last week. "Doing the MOG"

I met/worked with one of the guys who survived. Not just saying that, either. Real good dude. He didn't want to talk about it much, and I respected that. He had scars (physically and mentally) but was a very honest, hard working guy. I learned a lot from him. I'd say he has a positive look on life that few people on Earth enjoy. Eventually he returned to work with the arm of military he left after this happened. God speed and I hope life was every bit what you wanted. Thanks for your service!

I was there during "Operation Restore Hope" with 101st Airborne/10th Mountain Division Aviation support. Patching bullet holes, rotor blades...them skinnies were ruthless...lost one of our engine guys Nicholas to a shark attack on his day off. One of those Army life experiences you never forget. Salute to all those who perished during that deployment. "Press On"!

Today there are pieces of the top rotor at the airborne and special operations museum In Fayetteville NC. The pieces were sitting in the dirt for years until they brought them back. They’re on exhibit now along with other artifacts from that day if anyone would like to know or go to see

I am 51 now. Our unit was part of the rescue crew for the Black Hawk Crew, Super 61...It was gruesome and lucky for our squad, none of them could shoot straight.

Two Wars later, IRAQ and Afghanistan, a Purple Heart, and a Bronze Star, I am still alive. Physically and mentally just beat up. I miss the men and women I served with. WAR SUX!
