The truth has set me free! I have been struggling mightily to keep up the monthly tithing which my husband and I paid before his death. We also gave generously, which I have also kept up, often by going without food myself. For nine months, my church was supposed to be helping me!!

I just contacted my church and stopped my automatically withdrawn monthly tithing. I will continue my charitable giving, but now I can at least eat regularly! Thank you! May God pour out to you the widow's blessing!

I am a Christian for decades but for the past few years re-examining the tithe. 2, 000 years ago, Christians did not support pastors and church staff and building their retirement plans. Very little was mentioned about specific funds for the needy but with a few exceptional churches. Retirement wasn’t even an option. Much of the tithe we put up was squandered on needless and expensive endeavors and church staff gets a sabbatical leave for 2 months every 4 years and fully paid. Some of us that can’t retire yet are still living on tough times but the book of Malachi is frequently misquoted to justify 10% tithe. I’m not insisting on no donations as I have given in the past 7 years well into the five figures but I stay away from churches that overpreaches tithing. I go to a mega church now who’s pastor preached on tithing is not required and they won’t care if you never tithe. Their ministry is blessed internationally as well as domestically. That comes across as walking in The Holy Spirit and not in man-made rules
