=====================
⁉️ THE QUESTION:

What does the Bible say about tithing?

====================
🎙️ THE ANSWER:

So tithing is taught throughout the Bible. It means 10th, and it's where we give the first 10 % of our income or our resources to the Lord.

It's really an act of worship. It's a way for us to say, God, you're my source. Everything I have comes from you, and I wanna give back to you just a small portion of what you've already given to me. I know some people have frowned upon tithing, or they don't think tithing is for today, for the New Testament, because it's part of the law, but it predates the law. We know that Abraham gave a 10th. he tithed to Melchizedek, a priest from Salem, from Jerusalem. And we know that Jesus commended people for tithing. And that's why I believe that all of us, every believer should continue to tithe, not legalistically, but see it as a starting point. Because I think tithing declares God, you deserve the first and the best in my life. And that is certainly a principle we see throughout the Bible.

Tithing is one thing but when you see these church leaders driving high end vehicles, living in mansions, lots of gold chains, and has more property than a farmer there is some evil at work there.

The quickest way to find a wolf is whether or not they mandate tithing.

Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 2Corrrinthian

Tithing was a good thing in its day. It was a schoolmaster to bring the people to Christ. It has already been pointed out that tithing in the Old Testament law was for the upkeep of the priesthood because the Levites had no inheritance of land for themselves. Today, we abide by freewill offerings to help the ministers who give up their entire hopes and dreams in life in order to follow Jesus in the ministry. It is my joy and privilege to help them as I can, give them a bed for the night, and offer them a meal. I have always felt that opening my home to God's servants is giving far more than 10%.

How many salaried preachers do you know that have a key to someone's house and a standing invitation for supper and the night?

We are no longer under the law but under grace through the saving work of our Lord Jesus Christ. The Apostle Paul encourages us to give cheerfully, in proportion to how God has blessed us—not out of obligation or pressure. What the pastor said is true: there is no set percentage required for Christian giving. God delights in a cheerful giver, someone who gives freely and from the heart.

While tithing can be a good practice, God desires more than a fixed percentage—He wants our whole heart, not just 10%. In the Old Testament, tithing was part of a covenant between God and the nation of Israel, who were not Christians but a chosen people. Their tithes—primarily agricultural—were meant to support the Levitical priesthood.

As believers today, we are not bound by that covenant. We are now under a new covenant of grace, living under the influence and guidance of Jesus Christ.

All biblical, systematic (required) tithing occurred under Mosaic Law and only consumable items from within Israel were accepted as a systematic tithe deliverable. Tithing pre-dates the law and even the Bible as a taxation system, but there's no biblical evidence it was God-required. Jesus chastised the Pharisees for their pious legalism as they practiced the ceremonial ordinance of tithing under Mosaic Law while ignoring more important moral matters. Today's version of tithing carries no biblical precedent so it can't be seen as an act of biblical obedience.

Whether Old Testament or not, the Bible says That ALL SCRIPTURE IS GOD BREATHED. The first tenth belongs to God regardless, Trust God and the 90 percent will get you pretty far., I don’t like holding on to something that doesn’t belong to me, we don’t just rob God but we Rob ourselves. People are robbing God everyday. Not sure if you’ve ever been robbed before but it’s not a good feeling 🙏🙏🙏

It is not that I give to God because he gives me back or protects my household.I happily give him my money, time and my heart because he loves me. I believe in God’s love so very strongly. I won’t be able to stay if without God intervened.

The circumcision also predates the law and it's a principle throughout the Bible, I bet he is not teaching circumcision, why is that?. The apostles did not recommend tithing. And also tithing was collected by the levites who were the only priests at that time. In the Gospel who are the priests? Is it the pastor? The deacons? Or everyone?

Jesus was talking about the law with the pharisees and not about the church.

You are cherry picking from the law to fit your own distorted mind.

The apostle Paul instructed ministers and pastors to work at a job and pay their own expenses. The only support is to widows, orphans and Christians in dire need. Of course someone combed through the Bible to look for a loophole to fleece the flock.

It’s the taxes for the theocracy of Israel. It was actually three taxes of ten percent and most went to support the levites and the temple. It’s not ever asked of the New Testament church, we’re told to give with a cheerful heart and not under compulsion.

I do believe we should give but to make tithing a requirement or obligation, is to place people under the law. If a person chooses to pay a tenth because that’s what they have purposed in their heart, that’s fine but to make it an obligation or you’ll be cursed if you don’t is wrong! Another thing, yes tithing was before the law but nowhere does it say it was mandatory for them to do that. Remember that circumcision and blood sacrifices were offered before the law as well but we are not to do that now! I recommend that we continue to study our bibles and especially read the Epistle to the Galatians on things pertaining to the law

Correction… There is no teaching to the early church from the apostles about tithing. Tithing was definitely instituted by the law with Moses, and it does not carryover into the New Testament. The apostle Paul would most definitely have had to teach gentiles about Tithing if it carried over from the law because the Gentiles knew nothing of the law.

Tithing was a commandment to the Isrealites to take 10% of their earnings and give it to the levites. These preachers are misusing Malachi 3:8
