God loves a cheerful giver. That's the standard for Christians.

My hesitation to “tithing, ” is giving money so the pastor can build a multimillion building, which isn’t necessary, I would rather give 10% to the poor!

In the Church I was involved in for 15 years, we never mentioned the tithe once. All we taught was to give out of a cheerful and abundant heart, and we never lacked anything.

It took me forever to take to heart that there is no specific number to give and that God loves a cheerful giver. I still struggle with this, but having children has helped. The first time my son picked a flower for his mommy unprompted and out of cheerful giving, it started to click 😊

The Law is now written on your heart.
Give from your heart, that’s 100% ✝️👍👍👍

I am a member of a small church. I choose to tithe to help keep our church funded and able to give to Open Doors, Crossing Boarders Ministries and our three annual missionary offerings.

OUTSTANDING! I do not PAY a tithe, I GIVE a tithe and then some. I mean, He has blessed me more than I can account for and it's all His in the first place. It took me a while to get here, but I consider a tithe as a place to start my giving and am JOYFUL to actually see it being used to grow His Kingdom. It sure seems like the more I try to give, the more He blesses me. God has a much bigger shovel than I do! Seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness and all these things will be given/provided to you! YES!!! In my words: When I take care of His Kingdom, He takes care of mine.

God certainly blessed me and my family after a layoff in 2001 where we had practically no savings and we were on the verge of losing everything, and my career was already pretty much dead in the water - I prayed and prayed like never before, and remembered Jesus said the Father would always provide - then God provided not only a job, but one in less than two months after the layoff, and one that's probably the most secure possible in these times (local government) and with some of the best benefits (including a defined benefit pension, which is rare these days). Still with this job today (2024). I took a pay cut at first (out of desperation when I accepted the job), but I've been reclassified a few times and received yearly pay increases, so now I'm doing better than ever. I say all that to say, YES, I will give the Lord all I can give, and my church is doing wonderful work to spread the gospel throughout the world and help orphans and others in need, to God's glory!

This teaching will rock the boat of those that "take pride" in "paying" tithes. We are not debtors to the law, when we start to obey the law in any one point we must fulfil the entire law and we deny the fact that Jesus already paid the price.

I quit tithing in March. I am in the process of re-evaluating my current church membership. When that is settled, I will not tithe, but will give according to what God shows me. No more legalism for me.

Out of the abundance of what the Father has given us, so we should give to Him

One of the best balanced teachings on tithing that I have heard.

I believed tithe should go the those less fortunate, such a widower and parentless children, etc. Because churches can often be more about staying open, paying pastors, choirs & musicians, and church bills (building funds, electric, water, etc.) that they are about the strengthening individual members knowledge and relationships with God.

God has blessed and has always taken care of me and I haven’t been tithing. It’s not a prerequisite for blessing.

God gives me everything I am very blessed. It is the first 10 percent I take out of my paycheck and give to the lord. The windows of heaven have truly opened

Some people can’t always tithe, can’t afford to give 10% but I give what I can and when I can.

You can never outgive God. We have what we have because of Him. Why would someone not want to give 10 percent of their earnings and have His blessings on their finances and their lives? Tithing came before the law and was not done away with. Tithing was never an ordinance against us, so it was not one of them that was nailed to the cross. It is our duty and responsibility as Christians to support our church we attend. People tend to overlook the fact that a church has to pay electric, phone, water, insurance, literature, Pastor's salary, buy supplies, etc. What if we only paid what we felt like paying on our household bills? Most of us would be reading by candlelight or, even worse, living as the homeless on the street having lost our homes.

Thumbs up. Thanks for a reasonable presentation based on good exegesis. At the end of the day we're inspired, not required. We're free to give, not bound to pay.

I left my church when they said it is "required". They are either ignorant or they are manipulating scripture. They in fact said we should tithe and wanted donations on top of that, like they were dismissive of giving that wasn't tithe
