I am naturally quite a masculine woman at my core and actually one of the best things for making me feel safe without feeling controlled was taking me along to his martial arts class with him and teaching me to defend myself. This means I then took him seriously and now things like texting him to let him know I got to my destination safe, letting him know where I am going and who with FEELS less controlling. It is a courtesy because he cares about me, it's not about checking up on where I am.
