Turning it off after you get out is the hardest part. I miss being scared to death and that’s pretty weird

"Composure isn't taught, it's earned"

Is one of those quotes I'm never going to forget

“Does our law enforcement have that type of rigorous training afforded to them” I laughed out loud

This guy nailed it. A lot of law enforcement doesn't have the benefit of proper training. Officers are thrown into a very serious situation without knowing what to expect. It's scary sometimes.

I love the way you just listen Jon, the way you lean into what he is saying to you, being truly there with that person in that moment. It’s beautiful to witness

I did 7.5 years in the NZDF, then straight into NZPOL. I can categorically say my military training helped immeasurably to cope with the extreme situations I came across. Been in a number of life and death situations (for them, not me) and all I can say is they're lucky they came across me because there would be a high likelihood they'd be dead otherwise.

My judo and Russian Sambo instructor offered free training sessions to the local police officers, and only one person took him up in the offer. And he was already a US Marine and also my kids wrestling coach!

The more chaotic an environment you can perform well in, the more successful you are going to be.

Law enforcement doesn't even make their people stay in shape after the academy.

That composure quote just seriously helped me accept some shit that I have been thru. I have always said "the thing I been thru make me who I am" but I never actually felt that shit in my bones until just now. My wife asks me all the time. How can you stay so calm in chaotic situations. And I just say it ain't shit. I realize now that I earned that shxt. Thru the hairy situations I've been thru.

Since I’ve gotten out it’s like I have amnesia, I don’t know who I am, all the stress of work deadlines I shrug off the stakes aren’t there. because there’s no moment of silence waiting for “it” to happen. I remember everything down to the smell.

Finally someone who gives a unique perspective. I believe training and experience is what he's talking about.

The cops really need to learn how to not treat people like trash.

Jon, thank you for this channel. Just found recently. I’m binge watching like you just dropped all episodes on Netflix. Love what your doing. Bless you. Keep up the good work.

For law enforcement, experience is what builds composure. Corrections or the street, you’re in a Robin Sage exercise for the length of your career. Some have it easier, others have a tour through chaos. The experience becomes the instructor showing you what you really should fear and how hard to push.

No city, state, local, or federal government is going to have the budget to train officers like that!
