Can Complaining To HR Get You Fired? The truth is everything you say to HR usually gets back to your boss. So if you report an abusive manager to HR this MIGHT actually get you fired. While HR is a place to support employees, it is also a department that reports to upper management and has to look out for the employer’s best interests. So complaining about your manager to HR can get you into even more trouble and even get you fired from your job.

If you have troubles with your manager, if you experience a hostile work environment, you should not be telling the HR about it, unless you are well prepared for that conversation. I have seen this happen, I’ve also mentored professionals that suffered at their jobs, dreading to go work every day, being worried and panicking about getting fired soon. Typically a newly appointed boss starting to turn your rather enjoyable job into something completely the opposite. Many employees think about complaining to Human Resources to get some help, to improve their situation. But usually the situation not only doesn’t get better, in fact it becomes much worse. In this video I share steps for you to consider before you approach the HR department at your company and the truth about the HR department not being your friend. I’ll also disclose the purpose of the Human Resources department, what your HR department does, and how to file a complaint to the HR the right way.

- What is the HR department? How does the Human Resources department function? Who does the HR department report to? What to expect from HR? Why do HR professionals choose HR as a career? All these questions will be answered.

For more videos on getting fired and on toxic work environment, I recommend you watch:

What has been your experience in dealing with HR? Have you ever complained to the HR department?

I've wasted my life for 37 years at a company where management has hated me. They ruined my career, my life, and self-esteem. I've sued them and won.

The job of HR is to keep the best interests of the company. NEVER the employees. Always remember that.

Having a fear that you'll be fired or punished for having a Voice with evidence at your side is the biggest mistake any victim can make.
Stand up for yourself, collect evidence and shut it down. I don't care if I get shot for it, I'm never letting anyone make a punching bag out of me physically or verbally.

The job of HR is to coverup for the transgressions of your Boss! They don’t give a darn about the employees and you suffer!

My ex-boss never gave me a chance to do my job, he made my life miserable. Just as you said as soon as I "involved" the HR he fired me.

Employment lawyer over HR for serious documented harassment cases absolutely makes sense.

The issue is that act and talk like they are there for you

I complained to hr, I didn't get fired, but the ugly manager went harder which lead to the new manager to resign and as a result I'm leaving in two weeks. Hr didn't fire but did gaslight me. Never go to hr if you are in a big organisation. They look after the organisation

My experience with HR was bad, when I asked for something they kept forgetting I needed to follow up
I wish we had a clever and knowledgable HR like you because some hr are a joke

Very true!! HR is NOT your friend nor there to help you! They are there to protect the company interests. If you aren't senior management, I have noticed HR don't care about you. Even with documented emails, HR don't do nothing. Such a shame. Unions are more likely to battle for you. Mine did and glad I had them during my traumatic experience in my last job.

Another great video! :D Thank you!

Marat, your words mimic the reality: you have to have a strategy to approach HR, know exactly what to ask for and make your mind on all possible outcomes from them. The phrase that hit me the most is "HR may not take action against your LM if he/she is more valuable for the company than you are", and it is quite real. We tend to think that there's a gap between HR and LMs when it is the opposite: there is an abyss between you and the team HR+LM (HR is there to support the business, as you precisely said). Your guidance here on how to approach HR is real gold, and working on your exit strategy is your obligation.

I worked for companies that were so small that they did not even have an HR department. How do they handle conflicts between coworkers? They just fire both workers and then hire two workers who can get along with each other. The moral of the story is that you have to along with your coworkers at all costs. Sometimes that's impossible. Some workers are easy to get along with. Some workers are difficult to get along with. Then some workers are impossible to get along with. Getting with along with people depends upon mutual respect, understanding and cooperation. You can also throw in good manners, courtesy and being considerate. Those things must be there or else you will not get along with people.

I had a confrontation with another employee for video taping me while at work. I told him, I will report it to my boss. He never showed up the next morning and I was told he reported me and made out a lie. That morning, I had already told my boss that I wanted to have a conversation with all 3 of us. He never showed up, so we didn’t have a conversation. He told HR that I said “ Me and my boss are trying to get rid of you” … I would never say “such thing” I know better than that!

I complained to the HR last year for the low food quality of the hotel staffs. But guess what? The HR director just kept ignoring the complaints. :(

HR is a waste of time, always keep an eye on job ads in your field, stay abreast of what requirements other employers are looking for & get ready to jump to a better job. No employer is looking after you.
And lawyers are not always the answer either, the power dynamic is all in the hands of the employer.& employees must be very strategic.

Pro tip: if you ever get summoned to HR or your boss asks to speak with you and HR is in his/her office, say you have to go to the bathroom real quick.

And by that I mean walk off the job. HR is the Grim Reaper.

Yep. We literally have a whole catalog of manager and employee complaints. I heard it's like a book. It's funny that all these complaints were years in the making and those employee's and manager's still work there.

My experience with hr was negative. I didn't even hear from them once I got hired, they were there to hire and then to fire me lol
