I've not needed to be interviewed for a very long time. A promotion opportunity has come knocking where I will be interviewed next week against a VERY detailed and multi tiered competency value framework. I will likely be judged more about my adherence to these rigid competencies rather than how my examples outline my suitability.

I know that I'm suitable for the job, but this way of grading an interview TERRIFIED me! This video, however, has changed my perspective and I can see that by predicting questions and structuring my answers/examples I can tick off their evil arbitrary tick sheet to my advantage. I now see this interview not as something to be feared but something I can use to stand out against other candidates.

1. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to communicate clearly with Ministers, policy areas across the Government and stakeholders.
2. Proven ability in a policy environment to produce clear, concise and accurate analysis and advice that draws out key messages, understanding links between issues.
