What if it isn’t knocking sounding but stopped. Now when cooled after tow it sounds whirly when put on gas?

I have a 2005 Buick Lacrosse that was knocking, and shaking in idle and drive, and when I got home, I parked it for 3 weeks partly because I don't drive that particular car a lot, and partly because I was wonderingwhat the next step was.. I had it towed away, and noticed there was a leak under it. It looked like a fresh leak, maybe because it was a lot of some type of oil. I'm wondering if that was the same thing with a motor oil leak. If it's the engine, the car is for the highest bidder. So far it is $400 from a tower I almost used. The tower I used towed it for $100, and offered $350 if it was the engine, and I may be nice to him if I don't havve an offer over $400 for towing so cheap. The transmission was shifting bad when I bought it on June 29, 2018, and I have been lucky so far with the transmission. I am really confused about what this could be, but think most likely the motor. It wouldn't start but tried to. The car shook like an earthquake in idle and driving before it died. It didn't like the gas pedal so I kept the revs low and drove it slow with my emergency lights abput 15 miles, which I shouldn't have done. I measure when to get rid of a car is when the repair is more than the value of the car with the repair or repairs done. If it is the motor and transmission, it is definitely more than the value of the car.
