Non-functional hand gestures

Non-functional gestures are hand gestures or body language that don't really serve a purpose, eg. crossing your arms, hands on hips, hands behind back.

It's important to be aware of these gestures as they can become distracting if used too often!

That's why so many languages tend to be complemented by hand gestures, it makes conversation easier.

As someone with autism, I find your videos very useful. Not because I want to change who I am, but because I want to be able to more effectively communicate with people.

I’m so glad I was raised in Puerto Rico, heavy hand gesturing are super common here. We even have saying about it, but I’ve noticed that a lot of my people are just extremely charismatic and I think the way we’re used to talking has to with it. Very expressive, very vocal with our movements.

It is REALLY easy to do some of these whilst Listening to someone.

I catch myself folding my arms some times, and try to get out of it. It feels like I'm putting up a wall.

Whenever I see someone talking so confidently I think that person must've been confident their whole life. They are born confident and just come to the stage without any prior practice bcz why would they need practice when they're perfect. But now I'm realizing that they must've practiced their whole life to be that confident.

It's not so simple as just hand gestures, they're the most obvious but it's actually the whole body: the head, shoulders, hips, back, etc. They work in tandem.

Look at the difference between Americans, Indians, Italian or Mexicans - they all have it but differently, all achieving the purpose of communicating thoughts and emotions.

e.g. coerving the mouth or face, hand on the cheek with wide open eyes, thumb on chin, leaning forwards and moving the hands back and forth in a clap grip, rasing the arm and pointer finger, shoulders drop with hands on hip and tilting the head to the side, etc.
You can visualize each of those and feel the emotion without saying a single word.

Please do a version concerning people who use non-descriptive words; vague words. 'So she went there, and she talked to him, but when he said what she didn't want to hear she blew up.' In short, you have no idea what happened.
