The True Power of HAND GESTURES

Most people don't know what to do with their hands when they speak. If this is something you want to get better at, ask yourself, how can I use my hands to describe the things that I say?

When you master hand gestures, you amplify what you say because now you can visually demonstrate and support the things you say!

It's not always about hand gestures whenever you telling a story the trick is to do a bit of acting of the characters you are telling the story about

I got to see someone who did not fit, he was out of place. My camera picked up not only his license plate but he was deep in a discussion with someone else, using a lot of hand gestures continually talking to someone over the phone.

Probably a drug addict. I've got better things on my mind. Great discussion, I found it useful.

When I did a presentation skills course many years ago, the trainer said about a company accountant who did his financial presentation in a super-hero suit to get attention and accentuate the super-human turn-around that had happened. The objective of the next exercise was to do something to get the audience's attention in a two minute impromptu talk, where the content was just something to talk about. I received my topic (urban sprawl) and up I went. I stood in front of the class for a moment, then collapsed onto the floor and spread my arms and legs out and cried out something along the line of "Urban sprawl! Taking up unnecessary space, an ugly blight on the land..." I stood up after a moment and spouted whatever rubbish entered my head on the topic, then to finish, I made some comment about beautiful sky scrapers, while standing up straight and proud. My "gestures" sure got everyone's attention! 🤣

Interestingly, after the teacher made some general comments, including how I was considerably less conservative than anyone else in the room (most of whom were somewhat younger than I was), he got to the "suggestions" section of his feedback. It was two words: "no suggestions." I was gobsmacked! There I was, having just done the most outlandish thing I could think of in a couple of minutes of "preparation, " and I felt like an absolute idiot for doing it, and I got the only "no suggestions" of the entire course! It goes to show that if you're bold, it will probably work. If nothing else, the courage will be noticed!

Why do I get so irritated when someone smacks their knuckles onto their open palm?
🫴🫲
The other gesture I dislike is when their hand looks like a parrot, like their hand puppet?🤌
