John Deere X758 Mowing

Taking the new 2021 John Deere X758 out for its first mow.

In the video I discuss the RIO button, you can use either the push button OR the PTO switch. I thought this was the case but could not get the PTO switch to work. I found out the switch wasn't lined up right. Works great now, just like the X748 PTO switch.

I have an X758 and now I always engage the deck at 3/4 throttle and then go to full throttle to mow. My belt snapped in half with only 150 hours when I engaged it at full throttle. The belt had no signs of any cracks but split at the seam. Not in high grass but over pavement. Deere replaced the belt for free. I installed it and they kept the old belt.

If you pull up on the mower deck engagement button (after it's already engaged) it does the same as hitting that RIO button. I always found it easier than hitting that small button. Hope this helps.

I hate the rio switch, that I bypass but the seat switch stays. Me having to fumble for a button when I should be looking behind me makes no sense.

A rubber eraser (2 inch school eraser) placed under the engagement paddle switch holds the switch in the override position. (Engage the deck first). I drilled little hole in the eraser, and dangle it from the ignition key ring. No muss, no fuss, no cutting or bypassing wires!

I agree on the safety I just made a jumper wire for the rio switch but when I sold it I took the jumper off and put it back that’s the only safty I messed with even with my new 1025r I never messed with any they don’t bother me and I don’t get when people make big post about it

How does it cut tall grass...even cutting over the clipping it does not even bog a little bit....

Ask your dealer about this, the blade PTO is not supposed to be engaged at full throttle! You are supposed to engage at medium throttle then advance to full throttle to mow. This will keep from burning out the PTO clutch a fairly expensive repair done at the dealer. If you do all your own work just the cost of the replacement around $150
