White shark surprise breach off Wellfleet, MA (7/30/18)

While out on research trips, we've seen white sharks breach and we've received multiple reports of breaching white sharks this year from fishermen and boaters. While encounters like this one are rare, this video shows that they’re certainly possible. White sharks are wild and unpredictable animals. This is a good reminder of the importance of not becoming complacent and always staying vigilant when in or on the water.

The fact the shark knew the dude was standing out there is quite scary .

Think of the timing it took for that shark to breach a moving target from below at just the right moment... it was tracking that dude. They are smarter than we think. I stay out of the ocean.

It is scary to see how intelligent they are, that's why I always watch out for sharks when I'm climbing a mountain 🏔️

"You see that!?"

If this was a horror movie, that sentence would have been his last.

Can we a least admit that we are not always mistaken for a bloody seal

The boat was morning forward. The shark has better eyesight then science says. It was able to spot the guy from below the serface and time the speed of the boat, diving down and then come up with timing to get the guy. Wow

There are very few people who know what it’s like to look down and see a shark attack you vertically and I don’t think any of them are alive except for this guy.

Scientists: Sharks don’t try to eat people they just make mistakes and are curious

I'm very pro shark, I love them, but those claiming all human attacks are accidents are just plain wrong. We aren't as calorie dense as seals etc so not first choice, but if hungry enough, protecting feeding grounds or agitated they may well attack. Consumption and repeat attacks after a first strike CANNOT be a "mistake" and those claiming attacks are provoked need to admit to the fact that most sharks attacks came from sharks that were unseen, so how can you provoke something you didn't even know was there? Sharks have every right to be there so if you get attacked you have to accept a certain amount of responsibility as its not like they walk up the beach and grab you from the comfort of your hotel room, but let's not go the other way and pretend they are always accidents. They are wild animals that need to eat, under the wrong circumstances we are food!

I like the fact the dude had nowhere to go but his natural instinct was to tippy tap his way to safety and out of harms way! 😂👌🏼

What gets me is there are human beings who swim out to that distance and swim parallel to the beach for exercise and enjoyment. I can not imagine

That shark and his buddies are probably STILL having a good laugh about that....

Who knew all of the world’s shark experts would take their valuable time to comment here about exactly what the shark was thinking.
