I Actually asked ChatGPT about this and this is what it said:

" While it's true that artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) have the potential to automate certain tasks performed by data analysts, it's unlikely that they will completely replace the need for human analysts.

Data analysis requires not just the ability to crunch numbers, but also to interpret and draw insights from data. Human analysts bring a level of context, intuition, and creativity to the process that machines can't replicate. They can also handle the more complex and ambiguous tasks that machines aren't yet capable of.

Moreover, while AI and ML can automate some parts of the data analysis process, they still require human input and oversight to ensure that the results are accurate and relevant. In fact, data analysts can leverage these tools to enhance their work and make better decisions.

Overall, it's more likely that AI and ML will augment rather than replace the role of data analysts, allowing them to focus on more complex and high-value tasks."

Just to be sure, I had a couple of follow up questions:

Me:

"Are you sure about that? I'm currently studying to be a data analyst and you would make me cry if I ended up devoting a lot of time only to learn later that finding an entry-level job has become almost impossible because of AI."

ChatGPT:

"I understand your concern, but it's important to keep in mind that the widespread adoption of AI and automation technologies in the workforce is a gradual process that will take time to fully develop. While it's true that AI and ML have the potential to automate certain aspects of data analysis, they cannot replace the unique human abilities of critical thinking, creativity, and context that are essential for making sense of complex data sets.

In fact, the increasing use of AI and automation in data analysis is likely to create new opportunities for data analysts, as they will be needed to oversee and manage these technologies, interpret the results they produce, and apply them to real-world problems.

It's also worth noting that AI and automation technologies are not foolproof and can produce inaccurate results if they are not properly designed and implemented. This is why the role of human oversight and validation will remain critical for ensuring the accuracy and reliability of data analysis.

So while the field of data analysis may evolve as a result of AI and automation, it's unlikely that these technologies will make the role of data analysts obsolete. With the right skills and training, there should still be ample opportunities for data analysts in the years to come."

Me:

"Maybe you just don't want to hurt my feelings."

ChatGPT:

"As an AI language model, I don't have feelings, but I understand your concern. I can assure you that the role of data analysts is still highly valued and in demand across many industries. While AI and automation may change the nature of the job, they are unlikely to replace it entirely.

In fact, the rise of AI and automation technologies is creating new opportunities for data analysts who can leverage these tools to perform more complex analysis and gain new insights from data. Data analysts who are able to adapt to new technologies and continue to develop their skills will be well-positioned to thrive in the evolving field of data analysis.

Ultimately, it's important to approach your career with a growth mindset and remain open to learning new skills and adapting to change. With hard work and dedication, you can build a successful career as a data analyst, even in the face of technological advancements."

Me:

"Okay. If I ever get a job as a data analyst, we'll go out and I'll buy you a beer."

ChatGPT:

"As an AI language model, I don't drink beer, but I appreciate the sentiment! I'm always here to help you with any questions you may have, so feel free to reach out anytime. Good luck with your studies and future career as a data analyst!"

🤣😂😅

Repetitive tasks can already be automated using scripts and AI can do critical thinking. The biggest challenge is dealing with dirty and inaccurate data, which requires actually contacting stakeholders to figure out what’s going on. That’ll probably be quite tough to automate.

I don't think Analyst jobs will be mostly replaced by machines. Instead, AI can boost the analytics function and the analyst can focus more on analyzing the data and better communicate with others instead of spending tons of time processing data.

As someone who has started the certifications, it is very scary as it seems those repetitive tasks that are being replaced are the entry positions, meaning the door is often closed. Wondering if I made the right choice.

I'm in Tech Sales, I feel more comfortable that sales won't be replaced because no one likes to buy from a robot. I started Data Analysis but now feel unsure

I'm only staring my pathway in Data Analytics, but as someone who studied Translation I can say that yes, many things may become automated, but there is always a need for a human who could revise the work, check errors and replace/add certain things. It's true that this might change in a few decades as well, but for now translators have nothing to worry about, despite the wide availability of all sort of translation machines

The job landscape is always shifting. Studying for a certain career is also about transferable skills and networking!

AI tools are hitting hard on content writers though it doesn’t mean writers jobs are gone.

Similarly, AI can help automate things in data analyst but the whole profession can’t be scrapped.

It’s definitely a different and more modern ways to do data analytics with AI.

All the data analysts must do this transition as quick as possible and learn, adopt new tech to make it works for you.

A few years ago, a notion was common that Tesla's self driving trucks are around the horizon and they will replace truckers by automating their jobs and one should learn to code as programming will be the most future proof work. But now with these 'evolving' language models, I assume that office desk jobs that requires human intellect for data processing, be it programming, server administration, or anything involving digital information, will be the most vulnerable than the manual labour jobs like trucking. I fear we still haven't yet fully realized what major implications AI can have in the coming few years, especially with the phenomena of emergent abilities and AGI.

This news lately 😂 ... We will see some automation in daily tasks across the industry, but it will vary for different roles. For example, in backend software engineering, it's important to start experimenting with machine learning technologies and "AI" to implement CI/CD, recommendations, deployment etc., on top of projects, similar to how you would add AWS infrastructure on top of a project. I have been using CUDA for quite some time now, even before tools like ChatGPT were popular. My point is, if we want to stay ahead of the curve, we need to learn these technologies and even build our own tools (nothing fancy about that). After all, some technologies are already a few years old. Data analysts have always used existing tools, so for them, it's common sense to use existing AI tools to improve productivity. It will not replace them, but rather enhance their roles.

waiting for this video ever since i asked this question in your last video .
big thanks for this video
but already there are many ideas suggested by AI which are step ahead of jessica by the time she learn some new skills isn't that correct?
it would be relevant if you could make a video on how to use those AI tools

I think lotof jobs overall in data and tech could be replaced by AI but governments and tech will let the people adapt slowly to a new job situation

FWIW, Jack's job by and large has already been automated with modern reporting solutions like PBI and Tableau. You don't need AI or ML for data process automation. Jessica's role however isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

Very nice content, precise and to the point. If you can add a little more for critical thinking and analytical part of data analysis with a few more examples that would be very kind. Thanks

OMG! I studied petroleum engineering bsc. I was planning to switch my career to data analyst. Now it has potential to be replaced by AI. Petroleum industry also has potential to be fully replaced by renewable energy. What is wrong with me

After watching this video, I'm highly in doubt whether or not should I go for this field as my career path or not. I wanted to apply for masters program in Data Analytics but now I'm doubtful. What new fields are there for career path or should I take the admission 😔

Those people who are worried in the comment section no need to worry at all .. whether this is data analytics or software eng or web devs ...nothing is gonna happen . I believe most of the coders used stackoverflow which was the best tool for productivity while working and they have shifted to chatgpt which is just stackoverflow on steroids. So continue with your work this is just a hype created.
