I recently had to take apart my toilet at home to remove a large bottle cap that was stuck in the trap. This video really helped minimize the mess and any of the "mystery" about toilet installation and removal. A few quick tips: If you are going to refurbish the old toilet, buy a fresh wax ring and a new tank-to-bowl mounting kit. You'll also want a paint scraper to remove the old wax ring from 1985, the last time anybody gave a fig about what was under your toilet. Also to get out the bottle cap (or whatever) take the toilet outside, turn it on the side, and run the hose through it on full blast. It will come out.

Some gloves please, simple protection, as a plumber myself always a scrape or tiny cut somewhere on hands or arms. I like using a vacuum to remove water.

Thank you for this video!  We had gotten as far as loosening the bolts on the floor.  The nut on one side would not loosen, because the bolt was spinning!  We used a screwdriver to hold the bolt in place as shown in the video and it worked like a charm!

Thank you, so much, for posting this video. I needed to have my toilet taken up to replace the flooring and decided to do it myself. It worked out just like you demonstrated in your video, except I had to use a hacksaw to cut one of the bolts at the base. Thanks! : )
