Nice video, Shannon.  Thanks.  I have some little tips that may help someone when remove  the toilet. I use the inside liner of my baby "new" diaper to absorb the water left inside the toilet (1 diaper is more than enough). Discard the fabric diaper skin, use the soft wool like stuff only. It turn water into solid gel-no more mess. I always remove the water line at the shut off valve.  I have a 3/8 cap handy to close the line.  Many time the shut off valve doesn't shut tight; it drip! If the thread rust, I use a small saw or a multi-tool with a oscillating blade to clip the bolt off.  Use a rag to clean the wax and put it into a bag.  I use this bag to cover the sewage opening.  Oh, hold on to the toilet, not the tank. U could damage the seal gasket and leak water later at the bottom of the tank.

I always flush a few times to minimize smell from when toilet is pulled (unless the wax seal has been leaking), I keep 1/2 and 3/8 inch brass compression caps to put on the stop valves in case they seep. You will want to use a new braided line because they are often over tightened and damaged the seal on the valve end. A 20 inch long line will reach to almost all stop valves, even when going from a low rim height bowl to a high rim height. 16 inch length is most common size needed. A few get by with 12 inch, and a very few 9 inch. Do not install a braided line that is stretched tight when installed. Much better to have plenty of spare length. Rubber plumbers gasket sheet makes for a good shim material between bowl bottom and floor if floor is uneven, not level. Composite shims are very useful. Wood shims should not be used. If you are changing from a round bowl to elongated, be sure the bath door if nearby clears the elongated bowl when opened if it open into bathroom. A shop vac with a wet use filter makes this job quicker and easier. Yes, I am a certified master toilet technician, and I have too much free time today.

I really like how clearly you explained all this. I'm looking at doing some bathroom renovation, and deciding how much of it I can bite off and chew myself. I have a half bath that I'm going to gut... popcorn cielings, wood panel walls, ugly vinyl floor, old vanity, old toilet... the works. Your videos have helped a lot.

How long is it OK to leave the rag stuffed in the opening? I have to remove an old toilet then have some work done on the walls. It would be about a week before the new toilet can be installed.

What about capping this off? I have a toilet that I want to remove and i don’t want to replace it. I would like to install a utility sink instead.

Great work, and thanks for the information, I was able to do it quickly and easily. I have another quick question for you. If you get a chance, could you do a video or let me know how to remove those ceramic toilet paper holders and ceramic towel holders when they are up against a wall? I want to remove them without damaging the dry wall and if I didn't have to paint, that would be even better. Thanks!

Why not just lift the toilet and set it in the tub to drain?

Shannon ---- good video again --- noticed there is not much on YouTube about connecting pex tubing to a toilet or sinks. How about thinking about this on any of your upcoming projects. What the best way to make a study connection coming through the wall or floor.

Any tips on removing bolts where the threads have rusted and the nut is impossible to wrench off?

Any idea how to change a toilet seat that the bolts are not visible. My toilet looks like a solid piece. I think the seat just goes into the holes. but the bottom of the holes are not visible. How do I get the seat off with out pulling the toilet off the floor. One side of the toilet seat is come loose and you can pull it off from the toilet but the other side is not come loose. I hate these toilet seats and they are on three toilets in my home and I struggle with them all. Any help you can give would be great.

Shannon, did you eliminate the bathroom window or was it like that prior to the reno?  I'm about to do a bathroom reno, I'm really contemplating on boarding up the window and putting in a 1 pc surround.  Thoughts??

Good man. Great job. But I'd use a socket wrench if possible to remove the nuts from the bolts. And a small bucket to catch the water. Some really good advice! Thanks.  :o)

Hi, at 4.07 min you mentioned some toilets may have another bolt on side. Well I have a old house and the toilet has 4 bolts. When I remove them will the new toilet with two bolts align properly with hole and flange? Thanks.
