The non hybrid version does not have a "CVT" it has an 8-speed transmission.

More specifically on the hybrid transmission. It is an "eCVT" which is not the normal belt and pulley transmission that many people associate the phrase with. It kind of does a disservice calling it that because an eCVT uses 2 electric motors/generators to modify inputs into a planetary gear system for reverse, regen, acceleration, or idle. Because of this the transmission is mechanically very simple. In fact, it is the same concept that is used in Toyota Prius transmissions from the beginning. They have been some of the most reliable transmissions out there because of their simplicity. If Ford has done it right the Maverick Hybrid could be a very reliable vehicle.

Another fun fact, the 2025 hybrid variant is going to be a hybrid all wheel drive with a 4, 000 lb towing capacity.
