2024 Ford Maverick XLT Review

The Ford Maverick, first introduced in 2022, quickly became notable for being the most affordable hybrid and its unique unibody pickup design. Now, in the 2024 model year, we're focusing on the Maverick XLT, the mid-level trim, which notably shifts away from the hybrid as the standard option. Instead, the EcoBoost engine takes the lead, with the hybrid now as an option. This reflects a significant change in the Maverick lineup. Our channel has extensively reviewed various Maverick trims and configurations, including previous reviews of the same trim with different packages and the initial base hybrid model, ensuring comprehensive coverage of the Maverick's evolution.

I really wanted a Maverick a year ago, but greedy Ford dealers had a $10k mark-up. That’s Honda Ridgeline money, which imo, is a far better pick-up than a Maverick. Great review!

My sweet spot for the Maverick is the XLT 2.0 AWD FX-4 with the max tow package. But I think the Best Buy is the XL 2.0 AWD with the max tow package. Everyone knows about the Hybrid model, but a standard XL AWD with the base 2000 pound tow package option for $100 is a very god value. The Maverick is an entry level and entry light weight pickup which can do a surprising amount of yeomen duty. So, the Maverick is one of those not quite so hidden gems in the light duty truck market.

I been learning about Mavericks cause I want one one thing about how the console is designed is that there are modular units for it and Ford encourages people to 3d print whatever works for them too. There's def way more to the console design than just a nifty phone holder. The new ones look good. I still want a hybrid one.

It took nearly 10 months for my 2024 Maverick XLT Hybrid to come in. The dealer in Benton, Ar. kept me informed and I knew it was going to take a while to come in. Yes, the hybrid engine which was std on the 2022 and 2023 models was now going to cost me $1500. more. I have now had my Maverick for 4 months and averaging 45mpg. I've added some accessories, i.e. 3 fold hard bed cover, tailgate soft open, mud flaps and hood protector. I've had so many compliments. Only complaint is the front seats need more thigh support for 6' + tall men. It is extremely quiet and acceleration is more than adequate.

My 35 year old ford F-150 has the same key storage location. 😂

A dedicated spot to store it had me laughing. Got me to subscribe! Excellent positive spin.

It's possible to get a Maverick in whatever configuration you'd like with the 2.0 Ecoboost engine. Just don't add accessories that the dealer could do like mud flaps etc.

I have a '22 model with just over 40K miles and no issues. Just order it with anything you could do aftermarket and you'll be good!

1:49 The reason the license plate is off to the side is because this Maverick has the trailer hitch option which for some reason you didn’t mention.

It is Easy to see why this is outselling tacoma. Great job Ford. 👍

Ford's hybrids seem pretty reliable, the 2.5 in it has a good history, and hybrids in general have shown longevity because the gas and electric systems share the work. The ECVT isn't a garbage regular CVT.
The 2.0 EB and 8 speed sound like a lot of repairs down the road.

Curious to see others throw in their two cents regarding my comments. I think a large portion does boil down to whether or not you want great MPG, or AWD vs. four-wheel-drive plus option that comes with the tremor package. Another tidbit that needs to be looked at as well, is what platform of vehicle Americans who own second vehicles have; I own a Toyota forerunner, so I already have the SUV option taken care of and most of the time what I find myself needing is a bed, which is what this truck offers. I can combine that with a hybrid engine, which gets me phenomenal gas mileage, but at the expense of only having front wheel drive in an environment where snowplows don’t make it out to me often. So that necessitates that I upgrade, but now we’re talking several thousand more dollars. If people are in a good spot where they can trade in, a vehicle towards this and make a 10 to 20% down payment I think that this could still be a really competitive option, the issue now goes to our economy and current interest rates with the banks. All in all, I think this is the perfect in between for people who may need a bed, and a utility platform that they can attach a flatbed trailer to while still getting competitive mileage. You also get a warranty if you purchase new, or certified preowned, and despite the recalls that have happened in the past a majority of those people who are affected, say that the truck itself has not been an issue and that the manufacturers have taken care of the concerns with zero charge to the consumer, so there really isn’t anything to be concerned with there, in my opinion .

I have a 90’s Ranger with a 5 speed. The Ridgeline & new Ranger seem to have a high bed rail height which makes side loading hard for older people. I like the size of the Maverick, but will check ur review of the Hyundai. Wish 5-speeds were still offered too.

5:05 does that mean the transmission won’t last as long? I feel like this will have transmission issues in the future

Excellent review. I was leaning toward a Colorado but if I'm honest with myself, a unibody with better gas mileage makes more sense for my use-cases (commuting, camping, hauling a dirtbike or two). My local dealer has 68 of these on the lot according to their website, which leads me to believe I could actually go get one (maybe even below sticker–what a thought!)

Just got a 2024 XLT FX-4 AWD in November. I’m very happy with my purchase so far. I didn’t have any illusions about it actually being a truck in the sense of work. I’m almost 50, I have a bad leg and climbing up into a full-size and back down wasn’t an option. It seems like the Ranger, Tacoma, Colorado type trucks are still too tall, especially the bed. I have a cart that I use for doing laundry and grocery shopping so yes I do use the bed to “haul” things but it’s just basic utility. I wanted to stay under 40k so the Santa Cruz and Ridgeline were getting out of my budget. I did test drive them and I can say I’m very happy with my Maverick at the price I paid. It’s an all around great vehicle

I live in Los Angeles. My Ford dealer told me if I leave a deposit (which is refundable) and order the Maverick to my specifications, it will be ready in about 2 months. And if I order it ( as opposed to buying one off the lot) they will not
add on any markups. I will get it at MSRP. This is for the 2025 hybrid AWD.
The only problem I see for me is the size. It's about 2 inches shorter than my 2003 Tacoma, but 5 inches wider. Parking in small parking lots could be a challenge.

How's the turning radius? I had a Nissan Frontier and it had the turning radius of a semi-truck, horrible when making u-turns. Thank you
