Modern Deck Railing Using These Cheap And Easy To Install Aluminum Balusters And Rail Brackets

Using these cheap and easy to install aluminum balusters, you can achieve a more modern deck railing look versus using the standard wooden deck balusters. You can then further enhance the overall aesthetics by using nylon rail brackets that makes a secure connection from the railing to the deck post. To achieve a 36" high deck railing, I used the Deckorators 3/4-in x 26-in Black Aluminum Round Deck Balusters with 2x4 top and bottom rails with a 3-1/2" spacing from the top of the deck to the bottom of the bottom rail. The nylon rail brackets were purchased from Amazon from a company called Eapele.

The template is an awesome ideal. It can be way easier than most people realize to not match the spacings length and width as constantly as they think. The template helps address this issue for much greater consistency.

Thanks I built my railings 20 years ago when these metal balusters weren’t widely available. I used wooden ones which were a headache to install and are now starting to come apart. Lining those up those balusters with the connectors is crazy fun! I had to lay my top and bottom down to do it. Then stand them up and fasten them to the posts.

Hey your deck looks awesome! I do have one trick I learned many years ago to space the balusters so they end up the same distance from the posts at either end. You have TWO templates where the distance between them is just a hair different, like by 1/8” to 1/4” different. You use one template from one end and the other template from the other end and mark the spacing. At some point in the middle, they overlap. that is the point you switch the spacing from one template to the other.

I used these when we built our deck about 11 years ago. We are now having to redo the deck because of rot on the stringers, but the railing is still good. These were easy once you got the pattern. Yours looks fab!
