📜 History of England: Fire and Swords - On the 26th of August,1346, Philip's army drew near the English force. The French were strung out for miles. Phillip's best commanders advised caution: put on those comfy jim-jams the Queen gave you last Christmas, don the royal slippers, get a goodnight's snooze, and let everyone catch up, then drown the English in a river of their own blood after a light breakfast. But Phillip looked upon the current puny size of the English army, and ordered the attack anyway...

Edward III would impose what he called "fire and sword" on the French countryside, intimidating Phillip VI into a fight he was *pretty sure* he could win...

Sharing a glass of wine with a bag of gold is probably something several Holy Roman Emperors did.

The last words of John the Blind, King of Bohemia were "God forbid the Bohemian king ever flees from battle"

King John of Bohemia was once challenged to a duel by king Casimir of Poland to a duel for the right to the Polish crown (which was contested at the time). Casimir knew that John is very chivalrous and wouldn't refuse an honorable duel, despite being blind. And he didn't. He just set one small rule. To make the duel fair, Casimir had to gouge out his own eyes.

Casimir backed down.

1:57 So when you send gifts and marry off your daughter to create an alliance with a realm in ck2 and then your ally never sends you any troops is historically accurate

7:20 In defense of the crossbowmen, from what I understand they were supposed to have had pavise shields in order to protect themselves. But because the attack was ordered so hastily, they were forced to leave their shields behind and were thus left without one of their greatest forms of protection against the longbow.

Edit: misspelled pavise as passive.

Easily the worst part about this is watching all of the cute EH horses getting cut down by arrows. :(
