The nightmare began at 11am on 20 November 1992 when Windsor Castle caught fire. The fire started in the Private Chapel and spread rapidly through some of the State Apartments. It destroyed 105 rooms - almost one fifth of the castle. Amazingly, it only took five years to fully restore Windsor Castle. Featuring interviews with Prince Philip, King Charles III and Prince Andrew, this film tells the true story of the Windsor fire and restoration.

From Elizabeth II to Cleopatra, Real Royalty peels back the curtain to give a glimpse into the lives of some of the most influential families in the world, with new full length documentaries posted every week covering the monarchies of today and all throughout history.

Britain is so lucky to have all those specialists to restore this beautiful castle. Imagine how difficult it would have been if these crafts had disappeared. Five years, well done tradies.

Devastated wasn't the word i remember lifting that carpet and let me tell you it was bloody heavy and i also remember ripping a 300 year old painting down off the wall it was screwed to the wall but it was meters from the fire so it broke in all 4 corners a couple of years ago i went back to winsor and saw it restored back on display

I am an Australian but I was devastated when I heard about the fire on the news. I had been over to England on the trip of a lifetime & had visited the castle & was overwhelmed by its age & majesty & to see it go up in flames was horrifying. I am not surprised that once they gutted the rooms that they found unseen treasures of the past covered up by the ugly 18th century makeover as many others have found the same thing in other historical buildings. They have truly refurbished the castle more tastefully & beautiful than it was before the fire. It was certainly a credit to the English craftsmen who have hung onto the ancient ways & brought them into the 21st century. Sadly I was never able to visit England again & so it was wonderful to watch this video & see the remarkable work of restoration done by the craftspeople of England. They have much to be proud of, so it is no wonder the Queen & Prince Philip chose Windsor to spend their last days in. May they both rest in peace.

It's just amazing to see the castle come back together. As others have noted, how lucky the UK is to have artisans with these skills!

I can think of nobody better than Prince Philip to get a group of restorative experts to come to decisions re this rebuild in a timely manner. "Just Take the F-ing picture" re that royal family picture day comes to mind....lol.

I think a huge thank you has to be extended to all those who rallied round to save so many treasures and risked their own safety on the day of the fire. Also to thank the talented men and women who worked tirelessly to restore the castle so exquisitely. THANK YOU.

Of course it was critical to remove everything. It wasn’t just a home, it was history nearly destroyed. Great job
