Thanks for visiting Guyana! It's always fun to see our country from a different perspective.

Edit:
-The botanical park has the entrance gate on the other side of the lot, on Vlissengen Road.
-Eggball is boiled egg in a cassava 'batter'.
-People usually speak Guyanese creole, English, Spanish and Mandarin, but some schools also teach French and Portuguese because of our neighbours.
-Most Guyanese are friendly, but we usually keep to ourselves. However, if you ask for directions or help, I've found people are more than happy to assist you.
-To my knowledge, Guyana hosts GuyOil, Solgas, Rubis and some smaller privately owned gas stations further away from the Greater Georgetown area
-Pepperpot will mostly be made around December time for Christmas, but some local restaurants and shops have it year round.
-Our seawall is a place for religious and secular events.
In the past, that area hosted trampolines, bouncy-houses and food vendors that catered to families enjoying the weekend. It was further developed into a more streamlined cafeteria on one side of the area, with a playground and walkway in other parts.
Hindus perform religious rituals near the ocean and some people practice catch and release fishing there too. We also hold small gatherings and parties around Easter time as children fly kites.
In the night, the place comes alive as people park around the wall with stereos and relax after a long week of work.
-Guyana does have a lot of gold and a lot of oil! But we try to stay humble
-We use a grid-layout street system. Most streets run straight, North-Soth, East-West, so its easier to navigate.
-Buses can be caught anywhere along their route, but that's only if they have space. If you need to get to somewhere specific, the central hub for buses in Georgetown is near Stabroek Market (don't worry about finding it, ALL town buses start and end their route there, so just tell the driver you're going to the park and they'll take you there).
-People don't usually see vloggers in Georgetown, and most passerbys don't like to be videoed, so that will explain the looks. Though you should always exercise phone safety in every country you go to. Every country has people that might take advantage of you not knowing the place.

Most importantly, always carry an umbrella/parasol/hat if you want to walk about between 10am-1pm, the sun is BRUTAL!

I went to Guyana with my Dad twice as a kid. I'm half Guyanese and half Trini. He took us to do wild stuff. We went down the Essequibo River to fish. I was scared out of my mind to be in a rickety boat and watching pirahnas and crocodile in the water. We visited the goldsmiths in my family and learned about guyanese gold. I ate good food, laughed, and had a really good time with my cousins. I love Guyana and can't wait to go back one day especially now that its seeing brighter days economically.

Guyana is part of the Caribbean because it has the same people and similar history. The Bahamas, Belize and Barbados are also considered Caribbean. Barbados and the Bahamas are located in the Atlantic and Belize is in Central America on the coast of the Caribbean. So Caribbean classification is based on cultural, historic/ancestral similarities plus the association as members of CARICOM.

Since, Georgetown is like 6 feet or more under sea level, the Dutch built the canals and culvert systems to drain water away from the coast. The old systems are still in place and works very well but these days with population growth they are rebuilding and making new systems.

Guyana feels very nostalgic for me. It’s strange. Maybe because I have friends from there, but feels like a home away from home. Very good energy

I paid US$190 a night for a room not much better than that in New York. Yeah, I agree it's too expensive.
