Guyana: South America's Weirdest Country

In this urban adventure, I will travel into Georgetown's Stabroek Market to experience the street culture of this humid city. Although Guyana is on the fringes of the Caribbean region, it is NOT a tourist destination. Instead, Guyana is a minerals, oil and agriculture rich country on the brink of massive development. Before Guyana changes, let us explore this country.

Correction: There are actually 3 regionally defined "Guiana" countries: Guyana (formerly British Guiana), Suriname (Dutch Guiana) and French Guiana. The 4th Guiana you mentioned is actually an administrative region of Venezuela called Spanish Guayana (or Venezuelan Guiana). Due to clearly defined rock formations from almost 2 Billion years ago, they came up with these additional regions, called the Guiana Shield, which geologically covers Guyana, Suriname, Fr Guiana, and parts of Venezuela, Brazil and Colombia.

You should explain why the British were not able to get the former slaves to come back and work on the plantation. The phrase "slave wages" comes from the extremely low pay the offered the former slaves who were also rightly fearful of slavery being reinstated. They offered the Indian indentured labourers a better package than they offered the former slaves. For example, the former slaves were never offered land as part of their compensation. It is truly incredible to see how the legacy evolved. The British forced people from different races and culture who would not normally be in the same country to be in the same country and that has created its own set of problems between the people.

Just so that you know, there are three Guyana, British Guy, French Guy, and Dutch Guyana, I’ve never heard of Spanish Guyana unless you’re talking about Venezuela’s false claims.

First of all you assess an entire country of 83, 000 square miles with your "walk around" of an area of maybe 5 sq miles or less. And Guyana started receiving oil revenue in 2020. ExxonMobil, the first driller to develop Guyana’s offshore block, begun pumping the first phase of its projects with daily output of about 120, 000 barrels. How much revenue do you expect them to receive from that production? Can do a video of Huntersville, VA for us? An area I am sure you are familiar with.

Everyone was trafficked to Guyana. The Africans were enslaved and the indo’s were indentured slaves. The indos got nothing for their labor and were treated just as bad. Then Afro’s, Indo’s, etc., united to fight for independence. Other ethnic groups were also indentured slaves in Guyana. British brought everyone over as slaves.

awesome documentary, i'd encourage 30-50 pc to be arty screens of unusal street or wilidlife frams playin out, where yo just wrap the gopro around a branch or a grill to see stills of scenes would be very pro, to see the indiosyncracies of the region. the main trouble with this a sa semi pro documentary is the color setting was wrong, i think a gopro 8 on default color, which is slightly enhanced, is the best for no fuss video for me, i wonder how come that video has a bit of a pastel cloudy feel at all times. even in the sun. love your voice happy documentary making.
