As an Indian I never knew about the extent of division between the two groups. We are often told about the harmonious way people of Carribean live.

Ethnic divide, but i grew up there, and my sister and i had Indian bestfriends. Never experienced racism even though i know it exists. It's not that deep.

As the ancestors of both group were harshly exploited by the British, I do not see reason to have racist tension against each other.

To a large extent, Guyana's ethnic relationship has to do with an extremely pro Soviet Indian population and a black population incessantly pressured by the West to confront this Communist threat. In a perverse way the same thing is being played out today in the Venezuela/ Guyana territorial dispute. Nice video.

The part about Afro Guyanese losing their lives in those conflicts is very very wrong. It was the Indo Guyanese who lost their lives in those conflicts. I know that for a fact.

Fantastic video and every word speaks from my heart too. As I've messaged, if people can't change their mentality and racist divisions that are filled with hatred and intolerance, seeking for their own superior stance in Guyana...the country will never prosper and fall on its ass. Which for all the beauty and Blessings it has to offer is very sad. STOP blaming past politics on racism...only the people of this country can change that ugly narrative to move forward and with pride and building success in Guyana, addressing all the issues of concern bringing this country up to date. We are ONE People. ONE Nation and ONE destiny. Our beautiful country is built on different ethnic backgrounds, influences and these all form our culture. Work together with respect for each other, and pride of Guyana and being Guyanese. Or it's doomed to fail, and keep failing no matter how rich it can be. Nobody would want to live and settle there or invest to grow its economy and a more prosperous future. But be as One Nation and only good things could happen for all. You reap what you sow...let's not sow seeds of hatred and racism, with ethnic groups wanting to be superior over the other ones. Too small a population for this level of hatred, be responsible for your own thoughts of each other, can't blame past politics and others. Root out the causes of racist hatred, again I have to say only the people can do that. And look forward with hope not hatred 🇬🇾💚🇬🇾💛🇬🇾

Guyana better come together as we see aggression from Venezuela posed to destroy what we know as Guyana today.

Alot of Afro Guyanese are also descendant of other other Afro Caribbean people especially from Barbados. Many were migrated south the Guyana after emancipation for higher wages from the 19th century to the 20th century, around the same time indentured servants from India were brought over.

Come to Singapore and see how we attained racial diversity after colonial British rule in very similar political condition. Those who cannot see beyond language, religion, culture, etc. will be domed forever.

In order for Guyana to prosper and have a successfull government for all of their people, they should adopt the Swedish and Norwegian style of government where the whole population benefits.

This is exactly the same thing in Trinidad, minus the violence. Here it's more hidden, but it comes out in many ways.

Its the Romans policy of Divide and Rule acknowledged by the British when Britain was ruled by Romans in antiquity. Thereafter British Colonialism thrived with this practise.

You failed to mention the real Guyanese! The Indegenous People. The British in the name of Christianity is responsible for the Ethnic Divide! Employment was given mainly to Africans who were Christians while the Indians were mainly Hindus and Muslims. So go deeply into the Political History.Jagan and Burnham together fought for Indepence and the rift started by interference by the external forces you mentioned. Indians and Africans lived peacefully , even sharing words from African and Hindi during conversation.Blame the one sided media too.

Never been to Guyana but I want to, fascinating country & history. I hope the threat from Madura fades because it's serious. Now, for the future, I propose that the best path is more widespread intermarriage, between the Afro-Guyanese, Indo-Guyanese, and yes the Native peoples in the interior, really begin to create a more unified 1 nation/1 people identity. This is also the best path forward for similar society of Trinidad.
