Are you concerned that your probiotics make your IBS worse or digestive symptoms worse? Are you trying to figure out which probiotics you should be taking at which ones you should be avoiding? if you have IBS and you have concerns about the probiotics you're taking and what you should be doing to most benefit your digestive health keep watching. we will address three reasons and the scenarios associated with how probiotics make your IBS worse.

Now of course a lot of times probiotics can help your IBS so we'll discuss the situations that people with IBS might be in that will set them up for getting worse and from probiotics and what is in the probiotic specific strains and different ingredients that might be in the probiotic that's making your symptoms worse so if that's something you're interested in keep watching okay so we're going to look at three different ways that probiotics can make IBS worse or any kind of digestive situation first and the first one we want to look at it has to do with the food that might be in the probiotic that's being used to help support the overall microbiome and the probiotics that you're taking helping those probiotics grow more and proliferate and so basically if there's a prebiotic in your probiotic then things could get worse for you if you have IBS or other digestive symptoms and specifically it’s when there's an imbalance in your microbiome called we call this dysbiosis in general and then specifically if you have a specific type of dysbiosis called SIBO or small intestinal bacterial overgrowth if you do then each time you eat that probiotic you're feeding higher v map food into your microbiome which then causes those bacteria that are in the wrong place the small intestine causing them to grow more and expand and create a lot of gas which causes discomfort cramping and a lot of the IBS type symptoms so if you have SIBO and your probiotic has a prebiotic in it you're likely to get worse from that probiotic now to find out if you have a prebiotic and your probiotic it might say that on the front or you can turn it around and look at the back and look through things like fos inulin artichoke any kind of hi-5 map food and you can look at look up what fodmap stands for and find a bunch of different lists for that but that's one reason why probiotics can make you worse same thing for like fermented food so we say if you're having IBS maybe you have need to support your microbiome so eat a lot of your men to foods well that's true for some people and really depends on what's going on with your digestion if that's going to be helpful or not but things like yogurt and sauerkraut and things like that already have prebiotics in them so the lactose and yogurt the cabbage in the sauerkraut these are high five mad foods too and when most of the time having fermented some of those products are broken down so the longer is fermented the less toes the less digestible fibers in the cabbage and things like that because the bacteria have consumed it already but some of it you are you're it’s still active there and so if you have SIBO or some dysbiosis it may make things worse because they're gonna then consume whatever is left over of that fibrous source or carbohydrate source so that's pretty much a number of one for why I sometimes probiotics or fermented foods make IBS worse so the second way that probiotics can sometimes make your IBS worse is if you have a problem with histamine and allergies we call this histamine intolerance specifically but you don't necessarily need to have histamine intolerance for your probiotics to be a contributing factor to making your symptoms worse so firstly let me explain a little bit about histamine situation so histamine is a stuff that makes you have allergies and it's a compound that can make your skin itchy it does all these sort of negative things some things it can be positive in some senses it's the excess histamine that tends to create these negative symptoms that we do that we associate with it so when you have problems breaking down your histamine specifically in your gut it can lead to higher and higher histamine levels so certain types of probiotics or even the good bacteria that live there can promote this histamine production and so if you're having a lot of histamine symptoms and think this might be part of your IBS picture or digestive problem picture then you may want to choose a probiotic that does not have the histamine promoting probiotics in it histamine promoting bacteria in it.

What do you do if you have a histamine reaction from probiotics? Will it clear after stopping the probiotics?
