Patriotism doesn't mean that you have to agree with everything your government does you can still be a patriot and disagree with your governments policies, leaders etc...

The difference is: Americans are proud to be American. Germans are not proud to be German but are proud of more specific things such as German inventions / engineering, efficiency, etc.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with loving your country. But at one point it's just to much. Like no, your country is not perfect. No country is. It's also not better than all the others, and you're also not the center of the world.

15:20, that guy is absolutelly right.
In my opinion the american patriotism is a necessity, because the US is a melting pot.
Unlike every other country in the world, there are so many different ethnic and cultural groups in America.
But patriotism is what unites them.
And that is very important for their society.

To me the flag represents our freedom that has and is currently being fought for. Politics is a separate thing all together for me.

Everyone thinks American's are too patriotic except Americans. Sometimes it even comes off as rude when we get tourists come in and essentially brag about being Americans, like don't brag, it's making your country look worse, not better.

I live in Canada, in QC so i am close to Vermont and New Hampshire and the New England area and every time i cross to the US I see every house has an American flag on it . It is unusual as I don't see many houses here with Quebec or Canada flags but I do admire American patriotism

It takes balls to be a patriot in today's Germany.

You touch a hot potatoe :) Patriotism gets over the top if it communicates not pride, but superiority. The American way of life is nice, but not the only way of life. Your blog is a good example how different cultures should deal with each other. With respect. Some noisy US patriotism shows a lack of respect for other countries.

The answer I liked best was the first one: Don't let patriotism get you lazy. There is always something to learn from others, and there is always a way to improve.

I was thinking for hrs now wether to state a comment or not (as a german)... For me personally, there´s absolutely nothing wrong with loving your own country, respecting your own country or to be proud of your own country. In this context it doesn´t matter, if you´re an american, a german, a french...wherever you´re from. That´s patrioism. And I don´t really care about how many flags are being placed around. The important thing is the individual attitude you carry in your hearts. Kelly asked one of those people, if the american patrioism is dangerous for other nations... well, it can get dangerous, if patrioism turns to nationalism or simple ignorance. There´s a major difference between saying: "I´m an american, I love my country, I respect my country and I´m glad to live here, even though it´s not perfect!" and "America first... and the rest doesn´t matter!" And I deeply hope, the majority of the american people identifies with the first phrase...
