Now, what's more dangerous?
1. A teen who becomes a bit funny
Or
2. A teen operating a vehicle with mach 2 on the Autobahn

With your Parents you can also drink beer and wine with 14 years

When drinking you can damage yourself. When driving you can damage others. Liability is only possible when you are of age - so driving is only allowed when you are of age

It's definitely a good thing that driving age and drinking age doesn't fall on the same birthday.

If you “normalize” drinking and it is shown that it is done in moderation then there doesn’t seem to be as big of a problem with it. But if you sensationalize drinking then it becomes something of a grandiose thing that becomes a major problem.
Drinking wine with one’s meal in Europe used to be more for sanitary reasons because the water quality wasn’t the greatest.
The approach to me is way different.
I agree with the German approach to driving being 18 but public transportation is better in Europe than here in the US.
Also as someone who served in the Army I believe that if you are old enough for the government to send you to go die for their ambitions then you should be old enough to drink or anything else that is age restricted.

Just my 2 cents.

And the best part is that you don't even have to be 18, you can do it at 16, and start assisted driving at 17

I'm going to side with drinking at 16 and driving on 18 on this one.

Drinking before driving makes more sense because 1. You know your limits when you get your license and 2. Most people go crazy for alcohol in the first 2 years they drink, then they had their experiences and drink a lot less. So they are over the Maximum-Drink phase when they get their license.

Drinking is safer than driving. If you are a noob drinker, you act funny for a few hours. If you are a noob driver, you hit someone with your car.

Like it's gonna stop you from drinking as a teenager if it's illegal.

I feel like the acceptance that teenagers do drink and stuff (although it's bad) comes along with parents teaching them to drink responsibly and explaining the risks and dangers about alcohol instead of just demonizing it. At least this would be the best way to go.

I think a young drinking age is much better. Not only does it give the parents the opportunity to teach their children responsible drinking, it also eliminates illegal drinking with all it's dangers.

You can get your driver license with the age of 17 but you're not allowed to drive by yourself until you turn 18

Here in Germany you can get a driver's license for a car at 17 and for mopeds at 15

In most of the EU countries you cant get a drivers license untill 18

In Switzerland they actually make getting a drivers license even more of the reverse of the US, where you can only get a learners permit at 17, then you get a probational permit at 18, which you must have for 3 years before finally getting a drivers license at 21
this means that until you turn 21 (or in some cases 20) it is impossible for you to legally drive outside of Switzerland and considering the size difference, you can barley go anywhere compared to the US, where you can cross the border.
For alcohol they can however drink any drink (besides cocktails) that is 12% or lower in alcohol at 16 and can drink anything at 18, making it very similar if not exactly the same alcohol policy as Germany

My argument is and has always been: I'd rather have someone who knows how alcohol affects him start driving drive a car, than have someone who is very confident in his driving skills (up to 7 years in some US states) try it with alcohol.

Drinking, you only risk your own life. Driving, you risk your own, and evrybody around you

It’s much harder to get a driver’s license in Germany.
They require lots of practical and road training.

You can actually start making your drivers license with 16 1/2 in Germany. When you are 17 you are allowed to drive but only when a parent (it could be other persons, but most of the times the parents) is sitting next to you in the car while you drive.

16 is the line for low alcoholic beverages like beer and wine, 18 the one for spiritous beveraged. It actually makes sense to learn your drinking limits before start driving. But it's safer to not drink and drive at all.

Btw. fulfilling several prerequesites you can learn driving at 17. You are allowed to drive mopeds and quads and similar vehicles even from age 15 on, if you pass the drivers license test.
