How to Build an LED TV Cabinet!
Follow @philipshue on Instagram

Today on Modern Builds I'll be showing you how to build a floating media / TV console. I used LED strip lights on the bottom of the cabinet to show off the design and am hooked let me know what other LED projects I should do! This project is going in my recently converted attic, which is now a Home Theater. I had built a quick cabinet from scrap plywood in that video, but I'm excited to be building something a bit more 'proper'. The pattern I made with relief cuts is similar to what I did on the facer boards of the landings in the theater room and help tie everything together a little bit further. If you plan on building this, follow the link below to the written article on my website, where I have free PDF plans so you've got all the info you need.

I built this in about 2 hours with just a circular saw and plan on building another. One of the easiest projects the Modern Builds channel has done. Thanks for sharing this Mike!

Just made this and it’s awesome. Tip for anyone thinking about it - you don’t need to have pocket holes on the bottom of the support boards - just fasten them from the bottom since no one can see them anyways. Saves having to plug/sand extra holes!

Coming back to this a year later, and as someone who already owns Hue and a pocket hole jig, I don’t see what people are complaining about. Super useful video, dude.

This video feels like one long ad. I know YouTubers need sponsors to support what they do, but dude this one just goes way over the top.

I made this!!! I didn’t add the details like the relief cuts but I got so many compliments! I had a warped wood so my door doesn’t close flush, but those hinges are great! Thank you! Thank you!

Dude, that super glue trick with the hinges is gold! Life just got 5% better.

What spec plywood do you use? I find it hard to find material that has no voids. Thanks! Really inspired!

If there is one thing I learned from this video it’s that you would make a decent weather man. That ending bit was spot on with all the hand gestures😂 Great video👍🏻

I have been watching your videos for a long time and really enjoy them. I decided to take the leap and start my own channel. Thanks for the inspiration!

Nice tip on glueing the hinges and then the predrill.... I'll leave a link in the description.

Magnets in the top edge of the door to keep any slack away and these fabric or rubber nobs you put under e.g speakers to keep them from scaring the surface you putting them on to eliminate an harsh wood on wood closing sound 2 little details but they make perfection

Absolutely love this kind of build Mike. Think you can do more of these builds that don't require so much tools and skill set?

This is great. Need a skinny floating TV shelf. I don't like any store bought options. plus I simply need a natural pine finish look to match my recently restored pine coffee table. This might have to be my first serious project. I don't have a track saw but my shelf is about 5ft max. Will need to figure out how to use a straight edge.

I think it would be awesome on the next build to see you build some DIY acoustic panels for this theater room, once again great job it looks great.

Looks awesome, I would probably need legs on mine if I was going to put my amplifiers in that it. Emotiva !

looks great! Just one thing, never glue LED strips straight onto wood. Always use an aluminum profile underneath to absorb the heat of the diodes, so they will last longer.
