Its the best time for humans to be alive... and the worst for everything else.

Why do humans always default to negativity anyway? Things always improve with time.

The human brain also gives more weight to negative impressions than positive ones. The brain perceives negatives as more important.
Evolutionary psychology explains this by stating that a species/individuals wired this way, has an increased chance of survival. So it is a part of our genetic baggage.

THANK YOU. I'm so tired of hearing people complain about how terrible the world is and how it used to be -so much- better.

Thanks for making this video. We, in modern society, tend to romanticize the past, using the umbrella term "the good old days", and we are inclined to be very pessimistic about our own time. While there may have been some positive aspects of our history, which we have lost, from a standpoint of individual rights, technology, individual health, life spans, wars, acceptance of diversity, education, and our understanding of the world, we have never lived in a better time. Though we should hardly rest on our laurels, and there are many things we can improve upon, we should not naively pine for a bygone era. Our lives, as they currently are, are immeasurably better than the lives our ancestors.

Too much optimism can make us complacent and lazy, not seeking to further better the future. But sometimes a healthy dose of it may be like a warm, revitalizing cup of coffee. So thanks for the coffee! Keep it up humanity.. you are doing good.

The thing is, if we were indeed around for 100 years, we would appreciate the improvements. But the current active generations were born when they were born. So the main problems of their time are the worst problems for them. That's why we all feel so bad about all that ecological degradation, wars, espionage, etc., it's what is relevant to us.

Me: depressed that I'm gonna die
Scientists: This is the best time to be alive
Me: A little happier
My brain: There are gonna be better days which you'll miss
Me: Oh god kill me

EVERYTHING shows the negative more compared to the positive.
Only the complains are mentioned, and if something is done right, there will be no praises to be given.
This way of seeing things is pounded into the world...
So for those of you upset that nothing good comes from being good... At least you know if you're doing something right, that will just have to be enough for now.

Living longer does not equate to living better, nor that it's a great time to be alive, though I guess for most people that have some fear of dying for the sake of dying, that's a place to start.
Saying that we have twice as many people doesn't really help either, especially when there are numbers floating around talking about how many of those starve.  Double the people, half the hunger, both in percents.
Media in essence is nice; if it were wholly detached from the world it's covering, it would work, like, if the process of releasing stories were wholly altruistic and didn't have to deal with money, politics, or ratings getting in the way.  Mmph, I hate sounding so negative, but unrealistic statements like 'best time to be alive' leave a bad taste too, I mean, we're making all of these advancements, but at the same time it's a race to see which multi-trillion dollar corporation kills us all off first as we go into an economic and environmental dance of death.
