Oh the feeling of disorientation after anaesthetic is the worst! That and the aches if they have to inflate your abdomen with gas. It somehow works its way out of your body but makes you really uncomfortable. I hope you continue improving!

I am glad to know your are better. I had my appendix removed day before and just came home. The hospital Valley Presbyterian Hospital in Van Nuys, California was amazing and they gave me a separate room during recovery. I am already feeling better at home.

I’ve had the same procedure done a few days back and I can so relate to the anesthesia experience. While I did not vomit, I felt like my soul was barely holding onto my body. I was exhausted to point I didn’t even know what was happening, even though I did understand that I just had the surgery. I had never been this exhausted in my life. Later they had to give me something against nausea because all of a sudden I got extremely sick and was sweating buckets. Thankfully, this horrible condition only lasted a few hours, but it took me at least 24 hours to gain any strength back. I remember saying to my nurse that waking up was the worst part about the surgery.

Honestly getting my appendix removed was kinda fun. I was high as fuck, and I sat on the couch and ate jello for 2 weeks.

I remember when I had my appendix taken out mine bursted and damn near killed me. I was at home laying down on the couch watching TV when all of a sudden my stomach started hurting. I told my mom and she said well maybe you need to use the bathroom fine so I went and was there for a good 15 20 minutes. When I went back to the couch to lay down my stomach was still hurting so I told my mom and she called the nurse who then said try flat 7up. We tried that but it still didn't help so the next morning my mom took me to the doctor who ran every test he could think of. He then said "just go home get some rest and you'll be fine in the morning". My mom insisted he take more tests then he came out and said "Ma'am I don't know how your daughter made it through the night. She needs to go to the hospital right now". My mom wrapped me up in the gown I was wearing and took me to the hospital crying all the way there. I was 7 years old and I was saying "I don't want to go to the hospital" constantly. We got there at 7:00 am and by the time they did all the prep for surgery it was 7:00 at night. By that time I was in excruciating pain it felt like somebody was stabbing me in the stomach with a knife over and over again. When Dr. Cannon opened me he found my appendix bursted and that was the reason for all the pain. I was in the hospital for 2-3 days after surgery and then I went home then about 2 days later I got sick again I had a fever of 102 and couldn't keep anything down. My mom took me back to the hospital where the doctor gave me medicine and went back home.

When I had mine removed. I had so much shoulder pain and around the collar bone area. I wouldn’t move because it would cause all my muscles in my torsos area to ache and it was just all bad.

Your cuts are so clean! One of mine is puffing up and it’s ugly :(

I know what it feels like I have my appendix out as well when I knew I had it it was when I was lieng on the floor barely moving. It feels like you are getting squished although when your having surgery it feels like 10 minutes but mine was 2 hours

Oh gosh...over a year ago I had abdominal pain and went to my doctor to see what she could rule out. She advised me to get a CT scan to see if I had appendicitis, so I had to go to the hospital to get the CT scan. After waiting in the hospital for hours for the CT scan and its results, they told me I didn't have appendicitis. While I was in the hospital, they hooked me up to an IV as they didn't want me to eat or drink (in other words, Nil Per Os or NPO). When I was told I didn't have appendicitis and the nurse got my IV out, my folks took me to DiBellas to get me some food as I had nothing to eat all day. I still fear getting major surgery to this very day.

Thanks so much for posting this, girl! Very informative. I'm actually getting surgery soon, too. I am wondering if you could explain more about what it was like to get put to sleep? This is the part that freaks me out!! Like, what does it feel like? How do they do it? What does it feel like when they put the stuff in, like do you get sleepy or is more like wide awake to instantly out? Could you have stayed awake if you would have tried or is it impossible? Haha. Basically whatever you remember about that part would be helpful. Thanks so much!

Hi, hope you don’t mind I have a few questions! I might have to get my appendix out and I am literally terrified for the recovery-how long was it before you started to feel better/were able to walk around comfortably? And did you have to change your diet at all in the long term? I’m so scared 😔
