I didn't realize the burn time of a hybrid was that close to a secondary. Great info and exactly what I was looking to learn.

The stove shop near us in northern MN carry the Kuma hybrid stoves. They have a cat in the same location as the Scirocco so the heat generated by the cat is captured in the stove top and not the chimney. I thought I would never own a cat stove until I learned about hybrids.

My understanding about any type of catalytic combustion wood stove is that you need to initially reach an exhaust temp of a minimum of 500 degrees up towards 1000 degrees before you can switch over to full catalytic mode.(All stove manufactures have different ratings) During the warmer shoulder seasons when we may just want to just take the chill off of the room I do not want to have a wood stove (catalytic stove) that has to start out running at a high temp just to start the operation. We wanted to upgrade our old wood stove to a stove that will burn more efficiently and decided on a hybrid with a secondary and catalytic.

I've heard the 30 hr for the blaze King is exaggerated by far unless you burn it on low and dirty which will clog the cat fast. Anyone have any further insight into this claim? I've seen some contradicting statements on this.

Have a blaze king and not a huge fan. It's not a bad stove just isn't like a regular wood stove. The thing I like is it burns for a long time. We just redid our chimney and instead of ceramic flue when with the stainless. Definitely more efficient but have to find the sweet spot for the damper and I don't have to burn it as hard which I'd rather be able to burn a little hard. But I works well just not a huge fan.

What’s your opinion on the Osburn?
Thinking about getting Osburn 2000, same as in video, just smaller.

Right at the flue exit seems like an odd place for a CAT. CATs are supposed to work by getting very hot. There doesn't seem to be much heat recovery with the CAT in the flue. Probably doesn't matter where the CAT is if the goal is incinerating PM2.5.
