5 Wood vs 3 Hybrid: Which One Should I Carry?

Some people ask, 5 wood or hybrid for high handicapper? Well that depends on what you can hit. You have to try a few out. I would almost always say 5 wood but sometimes you may have a need to straighten up a big left to right ball flight and the wood may make it bigger.

5 fairway wood vs 3 hybrid actually is a very small difference. The extra length on the shaft makes a huge difference as it can be 2-4 inches in length.

Which do you feel happiest with? A fairway wood or a hybrid? It's a personal choice and there is no wrong answer.

5 wood distance is slightly longer than the 3 hybrid. I hit a 5 wood about 250 and the 3 hybrid will never get much longer than 235. I don't play hybrids because I pull them left whereas BDog and JMac like them.

Hybrid off the tee is the secret sauce when the driver is acting the fool and needs a time out. First time I broke 100 was all 3H from the tee box.

I love how simple and easy you break it down. I’m still fairly new despite playing a ton of golf so learning these things is key for me. Great video

"5 wood or 3 hybrid? What's best for you? Who knows? I do" 😂 amazing ! Haha thanks again boss!

I had a 5 wood for years and it was a guaranteed cold top every time. I'm playing a 2H not 3H but I find it suits my game better and I'm learning to hit it better and better. Keep up the great content boyfriend love your stuff

I have both. Hybrid is for tricky shots and always treats me right off the tee for distance. 5 wood I’m still getting used to, but my plan is for it to be my green chaser and for getting over obstacles in tricky shots, plus is forgiving off the fairway . Plus my 3 H rolls for miles since it’s a 17degree loft

For me it depends on the course. Both are great and easy to hit off the tee. If the greens are rock hard, I’ll go with the 5 wood as I can hit it higher and land softer. If it’s windy, I’ll take the hybrid as it’s easier to hit lower.

I pull hybrids always a bit to the left while woods go strait. I use both a 5wood and a 4h.

5W and 4H seems to work best for me off the turf. 3 wood is a driving iron replacement for when it's too windy for a 5 wood.

I decided to go with a Cleveland 3+ Hywood. Amazing club.

5 wood all day & a 7 wood too! I have never gotten along with any hybrid.

Depends if the course is slopey or flat.
I love the 5 wood, but I can't use it on the fairway at my local because it's so hilly, the long shaft makes it difficult to swing on a slope.

There are plenty of alternatives though for that problem.
One length hybrids - shorter shaft makes them easier to hit on a slope and the big heavy head gives you the distance of a wood (or close to)

Clevelands new Hy-Wood, again a shorter shaft and big head.

I usually carry both. The 5-6 wood that I have is a good consistent 210 usually natural draw to it off of the tee when driver isn’t working out. But the opposite with the hybrid it’s usually a use it on the fairway type of deal and I usually produce a natural fade with it. Don’t carry a 3 wood no need really, the par 5s I can’t reach in 2 only done it once in the 3 years I been playing and that was done with a driver and 5-6 wood. I think I could do it but I’m more conservative on par 5s too much trouble in play at the course.

I had a fitting looking for a 5W and I ended up with a 3H (superhybrid). Distance was ~5yard less with the 3H but dispersion was WAY tighter.

For me, it's the hybrid, because I am finding it easier to get the ball airborne off of the tight lies I play off of here in middle Tennessee. The turf is soft enough to want to take a divot. However, on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in Alabama, I definitely needed a 5 wood, because of the turf being very firm.

5 wood for me, don’t like the offset on most hybrids I have a right to left ball flight so I tend to get to hooky with the hybrids

I carry both, I use my 5 wood for fairways and hybrid for deep stuff

I bought my first 5 wood this year. My favorite club now. I hit it farther then my 3 wood. Goes about 30 yards farther then my 3 hybrid.

I really like my 5wood but I want to get a hybrid 3 to put in my bag .

A frozen shoulder made me switch from 5-iron to 5-hybrid (already had a 3-hybrid) and not only was it easier to hit, it turned out to be sitting better in the gap between 6-iron and 3-hybrid. Never bought into woods as the big profile historically scared me hitting off the grass. Maybe I should try again now that I've taken some swing lessons. I am just not convinced on the distance gain over my 3 hybrid will be massive with my lowish side of the average swing speed.

I have both but prefer the control of the 3H although my 5 wood is roughly 10-15 yards farther. If i play a course with wide fairways and minimal penalties on either side, i go with my 5 wood. On my home course where precision is a premium with lots of hazards and OBs left and right, my 3H is my go to fairway finder
