High handicapper
here :
After 3 wood 5 wood ( no driver)!
Its then all about my
- Adams pro 4 hybrid and Mizuno JPX 6 hybrid.
Above are essential for me - as Mark says extra launch is what it is all about !
After that it's my irons 8 and PW SW and putter- yes its a 1/2 set 😄!
Try hybrids they are easy and fun and go high and far !

I did this a few years ago. Got a 3, 4 hybrid and a Tommy Armour sickle 24° to replace the 3, 4, 5 iron. No regrets.

Love your advice you've confirmed for me to get rid of my 4 and 5 iron for hybrids I'm in my early sixties and don't generate enough club head speed for longer irons now as a weekend golfer the game is meant to be enjoyable and hybrids have been brilliant for me confidence wise over these shots

7hcp and Swapped my 4 and 5 iron out for hybrids last year and never looked back. Leave your ego on the car park and make golf as easy as you can.

Great idea you've just convinced me to dump my 5 iron for a similar lofted hybrid for confidence and probably consistency this just makes sense for a weekend golfer like myself

I also have the 18-degree Cleveland Launcher 3H which is a RIDICULOUSLY easy to hit hybrid. It is the best club in my bag. I use it for distance of 180 (easy swing) to 210 (don't lay off it swing). If the driver is acting up, I use my 3H which almost always finds the fairway. Two things about hybrids (1) don't give up too soon if you can't hit the first one you try...you don't hit them like long irons and you don't hit them like fairway woods...it's sort of in between. (2) like drivers and irons, hybrids are very different from one manufacturer to the next...try several brands until you find the one you feel most comfortable with.
I bought a Callaway 3H years ago - hit it fine into the net - then terrible on the course. Dumped it. The following summer I tried a bunch of hybrids outside at a golf shop - all the big names brands and I really wanted to buy a big name hybrid TaylorMade, Titleist, Callaway, Cobra et al. The one I hit the best - BY FAR, and it wasn't close - was the Cleveland Launcher 3H. It ended up the least expensive too. Sort of a blind test - all had similar black heads, didn't know which was which until I had the one I hit the best...Cleveland was the most consistent, Cobra #2.

More hybrids = more fun for this 12 handicap. My shallow attack angle has always lead to consistent ball striking with hybrids. I replaced 3 thru 5 irons seven seasons ago. The jacked up lofts of my Callaway Mavrik & increased age lead to inconsistency with mid irons. I replaced those with super game improvement hybrid iron replacements. Wedge is my first traditional iron. My approach shots are higher, straighter, longer, & more consistent. Shots from the rough are easier to advance. I get razzed about my mis-matched gamers but I’m at peace with it. I like to think I’m progressive & ahead of the trend curve. I’d rather shoot 78 with my hybrids then 95 with sleek players clubs. I enjoy the game more when I have confidence in my ball striking. If a player is more confident with a large hybrid profile & has average or below swing speed, give it a try for a season. Pre-owned hybrids are inexpensive so it’s a low financial risk.

I use 6 hybrids my 6 th club is hybrid wedge for bunkers, and a putter shoot 76-84 my 19 deg out drives my playing partners. We are all in our 70’s.

Mark really does make a lot of sense. I like his way of explaining things.

What an excellent breakdown Mark and some great advice too. I find about the same thing. I leave off at my 7 iron and have a 27 degree hybrid that I can use to replace the 7 and also get me to the same 18 degree Cleveland 3+ you are using....which is a very versatile club. I bought at your recommendation btw. Older video but still very relevant.

Im sold on hybrids. As I have gotten older, my dustances have decreased using standard irons so I have slowly gravitated to hybrids 3 iron thru PW. They have made golf much more fun

Very helpful! I have a 4 and 5 now but am considering a 6 as well since my 6 iron is very difficult for me.

Great explanation thank you, I'm looking at the TSR1 hybrid today, idk I've seen so many review on this line and it's gotten so many positive reviews for that slower swing speed, a little bigger profile and lighter on weight, the only think I'm not sure of is that there saying the shafts are cut longer on this TSR1 line and not sure I like that, anyway I'll give it a few looks and make take that half inch off lenth, thanks Mark great content

I'm a 7 handicaper I play my driver..3wood and have a 3 hybrid; with no 4 iron. I have a 3 iron which I only use for low shape shots around trees.

The average mid to high handicapper who only plays ounce a week won't be thinking about blending clubs too much, this just gives you brain fog on the course, the number on the club matching a distance you want to hit it is less complicated.

What about a 7 wood? How can we fit it into the equation?

Great Video. I've got a game improvement 6 iron at 25.5 degrees and a 7 wood 21 degree. Would a 5H at 25 or a 4H at 22 be a better fit in the bag? Safe to assume both hybrids can adjust +/- 1 degree.

Hello, in my bag I have a driver, 3&5 wood, and 6-pw, sw and wondered what hybrid you think would best fit in my bag. I was thinking maybe a 4 hybrid to fill in the gap between my woods but can’t decide.
