Thank you for an accurate concise presentation. I was born with one kidney and I was lucky because I found out I had only one and it was failing because of a pre-employement medical. I decided to do some reading in libraries, there was not much information in 1982 regarding nutrition and renal failure. I decided based on intuition to cut out salt and all animal based foods immediately. I became a vegetarian for the year before my transplant, (1985) and for a year afterwards. The result was that I never had to undergo dialysis, I had few issues after transplantation and all was well until the imunosuppressive medications I had been on for 9 years started having serious side effects. I then went back on a vegetarian diet for another 2 years, and was enrolled in a trial for a different set of medications. My health improved and within 1 year I was healthy again. my kidney function was better than immediately after my transplantation. It has now been 36 years since my transplant. I eat a mostly vegetarian diet and I feel great!! I agree with you on every point. I would only add to learn how to manage high stress situations in one's life.
