Love proxy files. I'm editing a project right now with 3.21TB worth of footage, shot on A7siii ProRes RAW 4k. If it wasn't for proxies, I would have gave up a long time ago.

One thing I've never thought about until I just watched your video, was the benefits of using proxies when I'm stacking FX and layers. Sometimes I have these short 4k videos where I add FX, but I never proxy the file because I'm always in a rush, but when I start stacking FX & layers, my playback sucks. I'm going to start doing more proxies now because I always end up adding some type of FX. Thank you!

Just upgrade from a 2012 iMac to the base Mac Studio. I needed the upgrade. I’m still using proxies for all my 4k footage though, it’s just the smoothest way to work.

Hi, just a friendly comment on the audio of this video: I think it would benefit from some audio compression to even things out. Individual words or parts are louder or softer than the surrounding words or parts. Especially noticeable in the first 30 seconds (“...ALLOWING you to...”). David Power and Jason Yadlovski have good videos on EQing vocals (albeit not in Premiere).

My work PC has been struggling to playback 4K footage. I'll have to try this out. Subbed!

Hi! Thank you for the video! Macking proxies Do I need to put proxies into timeline after that? I didn't catch if Premiere Pro applies them automatically?

I have a 2017 Macbook pro, even if I make proxies and reduce the resolution to 1/4 it still can’t play back 4k 10 bit footage

Proxies are great If you are not doing effects then you can use a simple modern laptop to edit up to whatever K you want. If you want the result to be 4k, 6k etc that is when you will need to commit that slow laptop to many hours of rendering for 6k and up

This changes if you have a lot of FX, especially on the Adobe side. The final render to a 6k or 8k file can become days without GPU support and is simply not practical. Thankfully the Bitcoin crash means you can buy a GPU again
