Can You Actually Cure Hip Arthritis and Avoid Replacement Surgery?

How to cure hip arthritis is a question we get in the clinic all the time. For most people it is possible to heal it and get back to being active again.

Being diagnosed with hip arthritis does not mean that you have to get a hip replacement surgery. Usually, getting the cartilage flared down and under control makes a big difference initially. Then getting the cartilage stronger over time is what effectively “cures” it.

Really, we call it “healing” rather than curing here in the clinic. Using the right word is important to understand what happens in the hip joint. Since healing means there is good scar tissue that has to be developed and then it has to be used properly to make it stronger.

You might still show that there is hip arthritis on your x-ray, but if you’re feeling good…WHO CARES!!!

There’s no reason to get surgery if you’re feeling well in your hip arthritis. Many patients are pushed into getting surgery anyway and given the reason that they are just “getting older” and the problem is not going away since they are not getting younger.

But hip cartilage can heal when you treat it right!

Build supporting muscles, butt muscles by walking on a slight up high hill, a few squats and a few scissors. Move unused butt mussels. Walk at least 30 mins a day. Morning sunshine is the best. Just saying did this my left hip stopped hurting no Voltairen anymore! I’m 69, Took six months.

First to do: go for a chiropractor.
Second: Cut carbs and sugar out of your diet for a couple of weeks.
Third : Fasting, intermediate fast.
Look for videos about this.

Fully agree with your point. I was diagnosed with hip arthirtis and was up for a hip replacement. The docter could however not tell my why I have this. I found this very weird. I did research myself an learned my muscles are shortened by sitting too much (during Covid) and a wrong sleeping position (again a sitting position). This causes the joint to be pressed into the joint ball causing wear. The solution is to do stretch exercises to lengthen the muscles and to enable the bone to recover (according to the doctor this is not possible). I also changed my sleeping position (on back without pillow). My pain has reduced dramatically making it easier to do more exercises and strengthen my muscles. So I am on my way to avoid a joint replacement and committed to do so. I advice everybody to do your own research and learn how you body works and what this pain is all about. Docters don’t telll you and are focussed on prescribing pain medicine and surgery.

I was scheduled for hip replacement surgery 2 December 2022 due to intense pain and discomfort, but narrowly escaped when I got COVID from my former partner, which invoked a mandatory stand-down period of 8 weeks. Then the ex-partner decided he didn’t want to be in a relationship with me anymore, so I put the operation on hold indefinitely while I moved out and got myself organised in my new circumstances. Meanwhile, I became more and more convinced that surgery is NOT the answer! I realised that my difficulties with tight and weak hip flexor muscle would still need to be overcome, as well as the need to strengthen my glutes, piriformis etc - my physio told me in late 2020 that all the fascia had become stuck together due to sedentary work patterns during COVID lockdowns and poor hydration had made it worse. It’s very exciting to hear you confirming my own beliefs and offering the means to get my body back on track and moving freely again without hip replacement surgery! 🥳

Thank you for providing possible ways to avoid surgeries.
I tend to trust more towards the doctors who recommend preventive measures instead of surgical or any other physical “fixes” including unnecessary medications.

I was in my late 40's when a four car pile up put me in a wheelchair due to hip pain and injury. I went to an accupuncturist about 6 months. It I'd a miracle for me and cured the pain so I could walk fine for 30 years before injuring it again.

You are spot ON!!! As a relatively young person (currently 56, but issues started at 50), I have hip arthritis and have been told by two orthoped doctors that I am a candidate for a hip replacement. However, I am feeling better now than I did five years ago because I started to go to the gym to work the muscles. In addition, I am also taking turmeric to reduce inflammation and glucosamine chondroitin and I feel so much better! I am trying to push surgery off for as long as possible.

Thank you for the truth!
God bless you!
I was told to have hip replacement surgery and I have done my research and don't want that intrusive surgery.
You're the very best!

Back in May, I was scheduled for anterior hip surgery in October, as the pain in my right side was pretty severe - apparently from my sedentary lifestyle. Doing your recommended exercises has pretty much eliminated all of the pain, so I suppose I need to cancel my hospital appointment. I kept thinking the relief was temporary, but in fact my hip discomfort keeps improving as the cartilage must be healing.

Thank you so much for your excellent video and explanation as to why the muscle imbalance was the root cause.

Up to 2 months ago, I was running up and down ladders and scaffolds and now I’m suddenly crippled with pain! My hip “goes”. It won’t take my weight and the pain is dreadful. Now it’s affecting my knee!
I have no butt!! But I don’t have big thigh muscles either. I only weigh 115lbs. I’m trying your methods. Thank you for your advice.

I can’t thank you enough. I’m 41 and active and my Dr told me that I have arthritis and there is nothing I can do about it. I’m going to prove her wrong with your method. Thank you!

Omg, I just recently discovered I have Osteo arthritis in my hip. Just started doing exercises and it is help me out tremendously. so far I’ve been able to walk for eight hours with the exercise and not feel pain like I have in the past and it’s only been one day of exercises. Thank you so much for this video because I was going to see a doctor about hip replacement. Now I’m gonna wait a little longer and continue with my exercises.

You are so right! This is an excellent talk on the realities of joint issues thank you! I had an arthroscopy because my hip locked when getting up from a chair or getting out of the car. It did nothing to help the problem whatsoever! It was still just as bad if not worse afterwards– five years down the line, I realise I still have weak glutes, I relied on walking to keep me fit so I have forward motion muscles only. At 57 realise I’ve got to do the clams, the leg lifts side lifts all angles to strengthen my bum– I really like your positive attitude which has helped me realise I’ve avoided doing the exercises because of a background belief that I am going to have to have a new hip. You’ve given me hope and a point to doing these annoyingly boring exercises, but I will go at it with gusto– thank you very much for your video! PS for anybody else, thinking of having an arthroscopy just to let you know the surgeon interviewed me on the basis of giving me surgery on the wrong leg which was perfectly okay and still is – a big indication, which I should’ve realised at the timethat they don’t really know what they’re talking about!😢

I started doing pilates and i found it moves the muscles you don’t even know you have, inner thigh muscles etc. that and weight training, glute band workouts, squats, lunges. It’s not easy but slowly i feel better doing these moves. Hopefully my legs keep getting stronger and last me all my life

Hello Dr. I am a follower of your channel. I was diagnosed with hip arthritis, bone on bone and worn cartridge. I am doing therapy but was asked to see and orthopedic Dr. I will see him to hear his suggestion. I will continue with your exercises and see what my results will be. Your exercises are great.

I began doing the horse stance about two years ago. I’d been suffering with hip arthritis for 5 or more years. Horse stance and the strength I’ve developed through the movement has cured me. Doctors are dangerous

But, I'm already bone on bone. Zero cartilage, zero cushion. Love the informative video.

I certainly wished I'd seen this long before my unknown wear and tear until I saw the Orthopedic.
