Why We Could Love Anyone

The modern world associates love with finding one very special person in whom to pour all one's affection. But what if a deeper understanding of love amounted to something else: a far more generous universal sort of love?

FURTHER READING

“Irrespective of whether you consider Jesus a popular itinerant preacher or the Son of God, there’s a very odd thing about his views on love. He not only spoke a great deal about love: he went on to advocate that we love some highly surprising people…”

"A person who understands love can love anyone." Very true. Genuine love is unconditional.

remember kids you don't have to love abusive people, either physically, emotionally, financially abusive, douchebags and or cluster Bs . Love yourself, protect yourself

Loving someone as a person and loving someone as a lover are two different things. The Greeks use two different words to describe this, "αγάπη" when it comes to loving others as people and "έρωτας " when it comes to loving someone as a lover. I think that this video appeals to the term "αγάπη" and I truly believe that we can love everyone as a human, despite our differences. But when it comes to loving someone as a lover, I do believe that it is impossible to feel like that for everyone.

The animations really made this video come to life!

Love is understanding. It's paying attention and caring about the other person. We don't need to over complicate it. We can only be saved when we love the other as much as ourselves. Great video.

As an agnostic, this was the greatest thing I learned as a Christian growing up.

Falling in love is brutal especially when it's unrequited...

I want to love all but some people use me and it's just hard

It’s 3 years after this video is posted and I have nothing to add.

Just want to say thank you for the uplifting content. This is not the first time I’ve felt downtrodden by a harsh and unyielding day, browsing through a sea of familiar auto-suggested memes, trivialities, and thinly disguised commercials, only to stumble upon a School of Life video... and upon watching I am reminded of so much - the beauty of life, the importance of understanding, the immense power of love - by a kind-hearted video bobbing amidst the chaos. The imagery of a light shining through the darkness comes to mind. I am so glad that you share that light with us!

Much love <3

This video is a prime example of the good religion can do. Even if you don't believe in any particular religion, it doesn't mean there is nothing to gain from the teachings they have. If you don't consider Jesus to be the son of God, there's no reason why you couldn't consider him to be equivalent to Socrates or any other thinker.

How come almost every video of this channel appears as a masterpiece to me? The animation. The deep thought. The understanding.

This video is not about religion. It's made with such a loveable intent. #Respect

Dear creator(s) of this video,
Thank you so much, your channel is on of very few that are beautifully pure, focusing on bettering people and opening their eyes to the world. I wish you the best in the growth of your channel, life, and everything else. (I just want to make a little change in the world and say, I'm Muslim; and I love/respect everyone)

Great message. I was starting to forget how important it is to always go beyond immediate appearances in favor of discovering a person's real identity.

"Love everyone, love all" is a naive ideal to adopt. Evil has it's way with those who open themselves to it.

I must agree with some others here. You're talking about compassion, not love. You can have compassion for anyone but you can't love anyone.

I'm so glad I've finally found someone else, especially someone so public, who understands this. There's so much hate, bigotry, and above all tribalism in the world, all fundamentally because the natural tendency of the human mind is the dichotomization of the good from the bad. I sorely wish this was understood more widely...

I feel exactly the same, , I feel bad whenever I hurt someone even if they hurt me, ,
