I’ll be picking up an fz07 this winter as my first bike. Been contemplating buying a bike for a decade, and am finally going to pull the trigger.

You've made a few good points Sean. I always recommend to beginners especially here in Pennsylvania that they take the free D O.T. motorcycle license course. If the new Rider doesn't have a motorcycle they provide usually 250cc bikes and have classroom as well as step by step riding instructions outside in the facility parking lot. The only way to flunk this test is if you drop your bike otherwise the instructors are fair.

I’m 57 and 6’2” and just got my licence. Took the course on a CBR125 and got a CBR250 and like it. Once I get a few thousand Kms under my belt I will move up to more power.

I'm 6'4" and got that Vulcan 900 based on your videos. Great choice. Thanks, man!

I’m 6’ 4” and just bought a new Kawasaki Vulcan 650s ABS through their Ergo Fit program.
In all of my friend’s opinions I do not look too big for it. The Extend Reach seat put me a little higher and several inches back. The longer shifter rod allowed for the pegs, shifter, and rear brakes to move forward a couple inches.
I am a novice. Only because I owned a bike before but not since 1985-1986. In 10 days of ownership I’ve really realized it’s an easy level bike. Beautiful Storm Cloud Blue. Looks very retro in my opinion. Now the fun of adding many mods.

37 when I got my first bike! It was a Yamaha R3 (321cc) after 2 years I upgrade to the new R6! Starting in the small cc was the best decision I made!

I started on a quad turbo BUSA with a super single rear and 30 inch stretch. I'M STILL ALIVE! - in the voice of the "regular car review"

I'm from England so my learning process is different, but I went from a Suzuki en125 straight to learning on a Suzuki sv650 for my licence, after learning the massive difference between small displacement and larger displacement engines I passed 2 licence tests for "bigger bikes" I currently have a 1990 cbr 600f4 which has a lot more power than needed on roads, and as of today has taken me out like a novice after a month of riding, these guys give sense not only to your ability but your longevity in the future.

Thanks for sharing. Senior citizen here. Owned a Suzuki 250 dirt bike for a few years in my twenties. Had loads of fun on that thing. Light weight, quick. Not sure I would go after some of the larger, heavier bikes you mention in your video.

BEST and most reliable allround beginner bike imo: Honda CB 500 for the petite ladies and smaller guys, and a Honda CB 750 for the taller guys. Can't go wrong with those.

I don’t ride. I wish I could But, I’m visually impaired. But, I love your channel. Love the ride footage & the scripture. Btw, I’m 48 & about 5’8. If I could ride, I’d probably get a Kawasaki Vulcan or a Honda Shadow.

Honda VLX 600. Great beginner bike but still big enough to ride on the highway. Not too powerful stock but intake-jets-exhaust plus advancing the timing makes a big difference. Chain drive, so you can regear tall for highway cruising or short for max acceleration.

I started with 250 scooter just to know the traffic a bit, because the whole perspective is different from being in a car. And it helped a lot. Once I got to know the behavour of other drivers, I started dealing with my own riding and bought myself a Kawa ZR-7. Now I ride a Honda Blackbird and if I don't crash it, I'll keep it for good.

Any new Honda sold in the U.S. with the 471cc parallel twin engine would be ideal for commuters, new riders, slightly taller/larger folks. It’s an excellent engine for everything but motorsports/racing. If that statement doesn’t bother you, you WILL love the 500 series. Very smooth(relatively), accessible, economical, easy to maintain. It also sounds quite good for a stock exhaust in today’s world.

I’m more of a 16, 000 rpm 400cc in-line 4 guy, though.

Hey Sean,
Thank you for all the nice videos and advices!
I am following you just a few months ago, I am 46, and just decided that I can’t go further without a motorcycle. This love is began all very long ago, but I never bought a motor. So I am a totally beginner. All the motors are very nice in this video, but I have a motorbike in my heart long ago, the Yamaha BT 1100 Bulldog. A moto with a big v twin from the Dragster, with 65 HP, and 88 Nm.
What do you think about it? Can this one be a good motor to a beginner?

Thank you for your answer, and greetings from the NL.

Everything I like is vintage or retro- so what older bikes would be a good starter for me ?

I had a 250 Vespa and I rode mountain bikes. should I start with a 300 or 500? I want to be able to do 2 up and plenty of highway. I’m 5’11, 180, I pack a lot of stuff, change of clothes, computer etc.

United States is a whole new first rode a Honda CDI 100, I just loved it. then I rode a 135Cc in college to commute and then my uncles Honda 4 cylinder 250Cc bike was a fun time. it is highly recommended to start riding in a Bike that will help you figure out what you love and also can be used for everyday commute, 250 Cc-600cc engines are good enough for most practical purposes in Asia. A Honda Rebel 500cc or Yamaha XSR 250 will be my new bike
