Hot hatchbacks don't have to be petrol powered, they can be diesel too, and offer some great fuel economy! Cheap, fast, and plenty of torque, all for less than £10,000! They may not get the same love and attention that their petrol equivalents do, but hopefully this video satisfies you diesel-heads out there.

I hope you enjoy!

I have a 2012 C30 D4 (inline 5, 2 liter). I get easily 55 MPG driving sedated. Even if pushed hard it doesn't go under 40 MPG. And the inline-5 sound is like the best diesel sound ever. :)

Just bought a Skoda fabia VRS for my first car, thanks to the insurance tips videos managed to get a quote for 1500 with a box. Absolutely loving the torque this car puts down and seeing returns of 48mpg from the big PD lump. In love with it.

Fabia VRS owner checking in. Gave it a bash the other day and returned 56mpg (210brake and 430ft lb)

Cheers JB. Great shout with the 1 series taking top spot. I've had my 09plate 120d for 5 years. 93k on the clock. I run it on Shell Vpower diesel and change the oil and filter every 6k. So far perfect. Very quiet too for a diesel. If the timing chain is in a bad way, you can tell by the noise they make. Cheers for posting. 👍

The Fabia vRS is an excellent all-rounder - I drove one re-mapped to 180bhp and it was a real pocket rocket! Only the unnecessarily harsh ride put me off - considering the standard Fabia rides very well!

Defo go for the common rail seat leon fr over the earlier pd engine, much easier to diagnose faults and less likely your injectors will fail which I found out the hard way!! Thanks for the video great content as usual 👍👊

Good video! I highly recommend looking at vauxhall astra /gtc 2.0cdti single turbo and biturbo variant, they develop 200\220hp with a remap, the automatic biturbo goes to 60 on just over 6 seconds and both five 45+mpg for about £4-6k

i prefer these types of videos, more realistic price range for most people.

Great video, most of those cars are definitely on my top list as I have a 60mile round trip every day for work 👍🏻. I love the C30, but I must be in the minority, as I hate the rear end of it. Love the front though

Just incase you don’t know, there is a polo with the same running gear as the fabia vrs. It’s rarer but no one seems to know about them so they r subtle as hell yet grunty

Only ever had one diesel engine car, was a volvo V50 1.6 estate was a workhorse owned it for over 7 years but did have issues with sensors interfering with the power, paid £ 6000 for it 2010 plate, never seemed to have the power even though I'd had allsorts of jobs done on it, it had been serviced every year, D P F probs etc, it had done 154, 000 miles just got it through its M O T cost £350 then dash light informed me, reduced engine power, got a diagnostic check only to find it was the injectors quoted £1000, it was worth £2000, I sold it for £500, and down sized to a petrol 1.2 Vauxhall, unless you do lots of Motorway driving stick to petrol less complicated when things go wrong . Great video by the way .
