@loveusoc Hi. If it is a grade one sprain and the swelling has gone within three days then he may be able to start doing some mobility exercises such as ankle circles and calf stretches. Massage should also be ok after 72 hours. He will know when it's ok to start exercising. He may find it aches and feels stiff - this is normal. If there is any sharp pain then he should rest longer. The general advice with an ankle sprain is to try to regain full movement and weight bearing as soon as possible.

Did you ever have an x-ray? A common cause of the ankle giving way like that after such an injury is a bone or cartilage fragment known as a loose body which was chpped off at the time of injury and now floats about in the joint.
If you had an x-ray straight off it may not have shown up due to swelling / bleeding. It's worth trying to get another one to rule this out.

i sprained my ankle while i m playing football ... firstly i didnt feel so much pain. . btt gradually i find difficult to walk. .. butt now i m little bit fine.. but when i play football sometime i land on that foot it really pain ... what should i do ?

i also went to nearby hospital ..they say to take rest for 2-3 monthss . butt i can't leave football

younger brother suffered a Grade 1 sprain 3 days ago. Swelling has gone down. X-rays ruled out a fracture. When can he start doing massages or small ankle exercises? wait a week? How can we tell if he is ready to start small exercises to strengthen his ankle?

Hi, I sprained my ankle by taking a ridiculous fall off a high curb in my neighborhood two years ago. I went to the ER that night, as my ankle swelled almost instantly to the size of a softball, and was told I had torn 3 ligaments. As stated, it has been 3 years. My ankle now click-click-clicks with every turn, swells at random times, and gives out without any notice, meaning I sometimes end up on my bum. Yikes! It's been more than two years since the initial injury... What on earth have I done?

I sprained my ankle about two months ago, doing parkour training. I have been doing fine until recently again, I have pain where the joint is. Where the leg and ankle meet. I was wondering if there are some stretches or something I need to do so I can strengthen it. It is on my right ankle, it was a serious pain I felt and a popping sound happened. I was unsure if I fractured it, so my family told me to just ice it and elevate it. What should I do to prevent further injury?
