M-Audio Air 192 Series | Cheapest and BEST USB-C Interface in 2020? In Depth Review

Hey guys! I just updated my old Mac Mini 2012 to the more recent Mac Mini 2018 with an USB type C input. I have been using a rather old Firewire Interface so it was really about time to update my gear. I ordered a couple of Interfaces up to 1000 Euro but in the end I really sticked to the rather affordable M Audio Air 192 | 14. And why this Interface might also be appealing to you is what I am explaining in this video.

Great video dude. I bought the 192 14, 2 years ago and I do all of my guitar tracking, vocals etc., through it. The build quality is great and I love the control locations. I bought this over the Focusrite mainly because of the reviews I read about the preamps, and convenience of the controls. I haven't looked back. I use a really old Macbook Pro with Reaper. I have no issues with latency at all. This was a great purchase and I am so glad I went with it.

Enjoyed this review - thanks for sharing!! I really like the background music as well. Might've just turned it down 3-6dB because it's competing with your voice/dialogue a little bit. But otherwise an informative review! Thinking about getting this interface so I can track my own drums.

Thanks for the review; tough to find one, especially in English. I have a Focusrite 2nd gen, but I need more inputs now. Very weird that M-Audio has so few reviews of this model. I would buy Apollo Twin or Arturia Fuse, but they only have a few physical inputs.

Hello from IL, USA! Great review. I bought one of these interfaces back in February, and have really enjoyed it as well.

However, I am having problems with it right now. When I connect it to my Windows 10 desktop computer, I only hear static when I listen to audio from my computer. I don't have this problem when I use it as a stand-alone mixer in 'direct' mode. I can plug microphones and guitars into the mixer, and I hear all of those sounds clearly. But any audio that originates from my computer in 'USB' mode does not play back clearly. It just sounds like harsh static. This happens when I listen with headphones, or when I listen through my M-audio BX8 moniter speakers.

I have uninstalled, and reinstalled the m-audio drivers for the device. I have also switched out USB-C cables. This has not changed the problem. Sometimes, if I don't use the interface for several days, and then I turn it back on again, I will get clear playback from my computer for a few minutes. But then the static slowly returns until all I hear is static when sounds play from my computer.

Do you have any thoughts on what my problem is, or how I might fix it? Thank you either way.

I'm confused about the 14.

It says 8 input, however there are two sets of inputs labeled 5/6, two of which being instrument inputs.

Will it record all 8 channels at once, or is it 6 actual inputs at one time, with the line or instrument channels being either/or?

I picked up a 192/6 for VO and I'm learning as I go, and so far the interface seems to work okay, the only problem is it is apparently incompatible when being used in video conferencing, ZOOM etc... The mic stops working in the middle of a meeting and I have to unplug the interface and plug it back in to get it to work again. I have talked with tech support and they've done their best to help but they don't know what the problem is or why it's happening. I have used a focusrite 2i2 in meetings and this problem does not occur.

Does the AIr 192/8 include phantom power supply or would i have to apply a separate source of phantom power? And if not, would it work flawlessly with my SM27 condenser for vocal recording via XLR cables? Thank you in advance

What use does the 7 and 8 inputs have if they do not have their own gain knob? Would you be able to use a direct box and a bass or acoustic electric for those two inputs or are they meant for something specific since it was designed without a gain knob?

for exclusive use with live VST playing with controller, is there a difference in sound quality from a cheap card to a guy???
