The saying in my family was always "hope for the best, prepare for the worst". ❤

as a surgeon, just know this is what we do train and practice for - every operation as a team first with input and individual lead surgeon. especially in trauma and under pressure. I've been lucky though where i work.

Be prepared for the unexpected. The prepared mind is best able to take advantage of the opportunity when it arrises.

It appears clear to me a lot of people can work under pressure, but it is limited to what they know to do well, for example a profession. To learn to act just like that regardless of what kind the situation is, especially interpersonally, is truly morally excellent. The latter is something I have been struggling a lot from years of self-neglect and willful ignorance, but I am very grateful for these bits of reminders.

The fire in Maui is a perfect example of what he's talking about. No one from the government to the electric company seems to have given any thought to what could happen.

This contradicts other statements about only worrying about things thats happened and not worry about imagined troubles.

If we are greatful to sun for his warmth and to all divine order of universe, we get very special feeling. Sun is worth of our greatfulness parade.

In CA, we had well thought out emergency response plans and disaster response strategies —- for an earthquake.

So how do you do a pre mortem without anxiety? When I do that I sometimes fall into imaginary suffering so I suffer twice.

Why my life sucks. Had I just practiced a premeditation of evils maybe I wouldn't have been the victim of medical malpractice. At the very least explore all options folks and liberally get second opinions. And for God's sake have someone with you in the doctors office a patient advocate (or just a second pair of ears). Thanks for this snippet of wisdom.

But also don't dwell on the possible negative outcomes ...nobody said stoicism is easy

Since we are on the topic of personifying the sun, I'll play along. If the sun demands that you give it adoration and praise because it burns and maintains the solar system but does it freely, no one would take the sun seriously because it gives away its value for free. The other celestial beings would just laugh at the sun and make fun of it because it demands to be taken seriously despite giving away its value for free. In other words, the sun would be loke a 304 that demands respect and love while giving itself away for nothing in return. That would make the sun worthless and replaceable, when one sun goes out, just find another one. After all, why would you give your value in return when the other value is free?

I also must say that if you want to compare love to the sun, the love you are talking about isn't love, it's indifference. Why? Because the sun has no emotion, it isn't alive. It is a bad anaology. But if you want to say love is impartial like light, then what you speak of isn't love, it's affectionate indifference. Love and indifference are two very different concepts.

Good thing I am not anyone's leader. I'll lead them right to the door, I want those loony toons as far away from me as possible.

I'm sorry Orion but listening to this entire clip has been very difficult. We can't be personifying inanimate objects, we live in 2023 A.D., not 2023 B.C. This is the talk of mythology, outside of academic study there's no reason to personify objects
