Love the way Heiser put it: "Yahweh is an elohim, but there is no elohim like Yahweh."

As Elohim means the “might ones” Yahweh is know as The Almighty.

Just started reading Heiser’s book The Unseen Realm and it offers this info, glad to see you confirmed it

I think thats why God was so visual with his power in the old testment .He wanted to leave no doubt who was in charge

From what I read there’s an even more simpler explanation for the title: “Elohim”. “Elohim” back then was in reference to just any being commanding of reverence typically in modern contexts it would take the place of the words: “lord, ruler, and judge”. Similar to titles like: “a landlord”, “a lord of a district”, “lord of the house”, etc, exhibit a similar benign use of “lord” in reference to things we ought not worship, but at the same time, an isolated reference to “The Lord” is typically understood to mean “God of the universe”.

To put it simply: God (capital G) is the ruler and creator of all things other than himself, while the gods are spiritual beings with superpowers.

RIP Michael Heiser & bless him for his excellent explanations on this very subject.

This made things so much simpler to understand instead of pouring through articles, journals, and scripture the other day. Thank you for simplifying it for me to understand it. 😅

Actually, the word “Elohim” is plural (“gods”). So it’s kinda weird to say “there were multiple Elohim.” [In the OT, they refer to God as Elohim, using the plural].

I love the way you break everything down easy for people to understand I try to explain the Trinity and it sometimes gets difficult especially if you just don’t want to understand or you’re kind of like that’s just a fairytale. I love watching your videos and studying to be a better teacher and follower of Christ. God bless brother

Yes there are multiple gods, but only one God, The Lord, who created all of them and they all worship him

That's a great way to describe the theory of many gods. There are many gods perhaps, but only one God. Only one Almighty with one Holy Spirit to guide us & His Son, King of Kings... our salvation, if we accept Him... sooo glad to know Him...

Well explained. Just want to add that all elohim are creations of God therefore do not conflict with there being only one creator.

Then why do they call him THE MOST HIGH God, I'd there are not other God's. People are scared of the unknown.

People forget how revolutionary this thinking was for the time. I’m a follower of Jesus and he’s my God, but even from a non divinity POV, no one was saying this stuff in the BCs

Why do Christians imagine that all biblical authors in every time were in agreement on monotheism?
The early writings of the OT promoted monolatry at best, and the Israelites worshipped multiple gods and godesses. (Exodus 20:3 "you shall have no other gods before me". This seems to acknowledge the existence of other gods that YHWH gets jealous of)

Genesis 1:26 "Let US make man in our image."
Genesis 3:22
Then the LORD God said, "Behold, the man has become like one of us in knowing good and evil..."
Genesis 11:7
Come, let us go down and there confuse their language, ..."

It's obvious from a plain reading and awareness of surrounding cultures that "Us" is referring to a pantheon of gods that man is created in the image of.
It should come as no surprise that in the bible YHWH is praised as top god, just like in the surrounding nations, other gods are promoted as the best.
