I was starting my second IVF cycle, get a call the next day from my fertility specialist, I was driving and pulled over, she asked how are you felling and are you alone? She asked that person take me to the ER! My ferritin level al that point was a 5... a blood transfusion was to be ordered, ultimately I received 6 rounds of infusions instead. The one thing that kept playing in my head, was “you can not out, this was and still is a major reason for my infertility😢. I have put it in Gods hands. PUSH pray until something happens 🙏

Great video! I went to the doctor several years ago thinking I had thyroid issues due to debilitating fatigue, dizzy spells and hair loss. I was only 25 at the time so this definitely was worrisome to me and causing a great deal of stress. My hemoglobin & iron were showing normal values but my ferritin was only 15. My doctor said “you might want to take some iron.” No other explanation beyond that, so i didn’t realize how serious the issue was. I’m not a doctor. I didn’t know what ferritin was at the time until I did my own research. Not only are some of these doctors not doing the proper testing, they are not providing the proper education/explanation to their patients which keeps them scared and further confused about their health. You definitely have to be your own advocate when it comes to your health!

I pretty much went through everything you talk about in all your youtube videos about iron and ferritin. It is so validating to hear someone who went through the same thing and that I'm not alone. I finally discovered I was ferritin deficient in April 2019 after having low iron symptoms since 2007. That's more than 10 years! January 2019, I couldn't function anymore I felt so exhausted i could barely get out of bed so went to a pyhsian assistant (PA) at a urgent clinic. She luckily tested ferritin and vitamin d. She was the first to test ferritin out of all the doctors and she wasn't even a doctor. My ferritin was a 10! I'd been to lots of doctors before that who tested only hemoglobin which showed "normal" they said my symptoms were just anxiety and in my head which made me feel so bad about myself. Now I know it wasn't and they were horrible human beings to say that. Doctors are supposed to help you, not slap labels on you and call it good. It was ferritin/iron! I had heavy periods since puberty but didn't realize it since it was a monthly on time period I didn't think anything was wrong. Boy was that wrong. Loosing any kind of blood makes your demand for iron greater. If any of you out there need to use bigger tampons or pads or even if you just have a period, get ur ferritin tested.. make sure levels are around optimal 100. On top of that I liked to exercise which also makes your demand for iron greater. In 2010, I went out for soccer and after that was when I started loosing hair. Now I know the iron deficiency was causing telogen effluvium which is a fancy term for hair loss. Over the years, it got worse and by 2019 it all fell out which is devastating on an emotional level. Wigs are awesome! Godivas wigs online are amazing. An easy somewhat fix for hair loss while fixing ferritin. Heck most celebrities wear wigs and extensions to award shows. It's not as weird as you think and helps you cope. I was prescribed iron supplements which were so I was taking 2 supplements every other day and it took 7 months to go only up to 48 ferritin. By that time I had depression on top of every possible symptom you could have from anemia or iron deficiency and my hemoglobin was still showing "normal". Ferritin needs to be near 100. April 2020 I had enough of the symptoms. This was no way to live. I started demanding iron infusions from my doctor and she ordered them. I know now that at that low a level get an iron shot or iron infusion or iron iv push! That bypasses the iron blocking hepcidin in your stomach and raises ferritin extreamly quickly so you don't have to suffer more. Advocate for your health, people! It's sort of sad we have to but you're paying doctors and it's their job to help you. I had 5 iron iv pushes done in july 2020. Now my ferritin is 200 and all my symptoms disappeared including depression (iron is a cofactor for the happy hormone serotonin which I truly believe is the culprit behind most postpartum All those doctors who said the symptoms weren't from low iron are idiots. When I went from 10 ferritin to 200 and it fixed all my 50+ symptoms. That is a direct correlation.. no doubt. Sally jacks tv mum from the uk is another great resource on ferritin that's who I learned about ferritin from. This channel is great too! The book period repair manual page 317 even says anything below 50 ferritin your hairs not gonna grow right. Our healthcare system definitely needs to update ferritin lab ranges to optimal levels and they need to add that test to the usual tests especially for women. It should be required. Thank you for advocating iron warrior. :) you are awesome.

I’ve been struggling with exhaustion, anxiety, and difficulty breathing for many years now. I can’t even walk up one flight of stairs without panting. I kept pointing out the red-flagged parts of my blood tests to my doctor, and he just kept saying, “YOU’RE FINE!” Now, a different doctor (an absolute angel) has finally sent me for a Ferritin test… and my Ferritin level is I never had even heard of Ferritin before today. I’m glad to finally understand what’s wrong…. but at the same time I’m SO angry that these professionals never figured this out sooner. I’ve been pescatarian for 20 years. I guess as of today I’m now going to be a carnivore, so I can save myself. ✨ If anyone has suggestions on how to be calm when feeling like I cannot breathe, I’d be appreciative. I’ve actually called 911 twice because I just could not breathe, and it was terrifying. I hope that with diet and supplements, I can fix this dilemma. It has affected my life so much.

I'm 39 and was just recently diagnosed with iron defiency secondary to blood lose. I felt like I was loosing my mind. My memory would go in and out, I was beyond exhausted, dizzy, lightheaded. I start my IV infusions next week. My hemoglobin levels were normal. My ferritin levels were severely low. Thank you for bringing this to life!

I've just discovered that my ferritin level is 9. I've been misdiagnosed for more that 20 years. So, I perfectly understand what you're saying

I’m so happy I’ve found your videos. I’ve been told for YEARS that I was anemic, and told off handed to take iron pills. But over the years, I’ve develop severe hair loss, fatigue, memory loss and could barely get out of bed. But not one of my doctors have linked those issues with my iron issues. So thank you for teaching us and making us understand how that can be a factor with our health concerns.

I needed this! I feel so bad and it gets worse every day. Lately I’ve just felt hopeless and ready to give up and let God bring me to him when he’s ready for me. My doctors don’t care. I’m tired and sick of being tired. Tachycardia, palpitations, shortness of breath, hair loss, head aches, fatigue, weight gain due to not being able to move much, etc...😔 I have low iron, low ferritin, low hemoglobin, low mchc, high mcv, and low iron binding capacity. I also have colitis which makes iron infusions difficult. My heart rate stays between 104 and 120 even while resting. I eat healthy, take the iron they gave me and nothing has helped. Thank you for providing great information! 🙏🏽

Thank you so much for posting this. I've had an incredibly difficult last 3 months suffering with mysterious symptoms that were slow to set in. I told my doctor in sobs that I wasn't absorbing the food I was eating, and the doctor looked at my blood work and said that's not possible, Everything's fine. Massive hair loss, pale skin, horrific anxiety, debilitating fatigue. Luckily, I asked him what my ferritin levels were, and it turned out they were dropping, and I have convinced him to let me get an iron infusion. Im documenting the process with video blogs but I know this sickness will change who I am forever and I don't think I'll ever be the same. Thank you for confirming what I already suspected.

Yes, I can relate to everything in this video. I was having severe anxiety and panic attacks and my doctor just prescribed me antidepressants and anti-anxiety medications. The ER doctors just thought I had anxiety and said my hemoglobin was within the normal range at 10. I finally went to a naturopathic doctor and my ferritin was at 7!! I've been doing iron infusions and taking simply heme iron supplements, vit A, C, E & zinc, cortisol lowering supplements & DHEA, for the past two weeks. I hope I will start to feel better soon. I recently had a hysterectomy from heavy periods too. Traditional doctors need to be educated on this valuable information. Still having fatigue, chest pains, & joint pain & some anxiety. Thank you for this website.

I am experiencing extreme hair loss. I went to a dermatologist and he ordered iron studies. The doctor did exactly as you described!! Called me and said everything was normal. I had a hunch it was related to iron deficiency because I had been researching it so I asked for a copy of my labs and my ferritin was 20!! 😱 All other labs were normal except my %saturation was high. I started taking supplements. I hope my ferritin levels rise quickly. Thank you for this great video! I work in healthcare and you did a fabulous job explaining this difficult topic!

As a man and a meat eater I thought i was in no danger of low iron. I have been fatigued since October. In December I had blood tests and my sodium was low and I was dehydrated but my hemoglobin was actually a little high. I started feelign better but still fatigued and sometimes bad headaches. Last week went for B vitamin testing and they did iron testing and I was shocked. My iron, iron binding, and tranferrin were normal but my ferritin was 25 ng/ml which was low. I do have leaky gut though. I ordered non-heme iron but luckily found your site and ordered total repair just heme since my B12 was high. I have been anxious with trouble sleepign so I hope this will help. Luckily I am now retired so I can ta eit easy.

Ive been dealing with this for years. I was being told by my PCP that my hemoglobin levels were fine. Well after about 8 trips to the ER, she finally recommended a hematologist. The hematologist quickly identified I have sickle cell trait and a ferritin level saturation level of a 6.. its supposed to be betwen 20 and 50. Anyways, after four iron infusions, things are getting better.

My sleep specialist was the one who was the first Dr. to ever order the Ferritin test. I never heard of this lab test and found out my Feritin levels are at low number 4. I looked up the symptoms of low feritin and had just about all of the symptoms. I've found out I've been struggling with these symptoms for years!! I'm soo grateful for my sleep specialist who explained and had my blood tested for iron deficiency. I'm now on iron supplements ×2 daily and hope the levels will return to normal range eventually. Thanks for posting this video as this will really put-out the awareness of iron deficiency and give answers to many people deliberating health issues.

It's not easy trying to find a hematologist that is skilled, and explains like you do. My hematologist told me red blood cells live 50-60 days, when I have learned it's 100-120 days. I think he doesn't know the simplest data, so finding the right doctor is the first hurdle.

Omg my ferritin is 27 and I feel awful... Developed shortness of breath and panic attacks and the doctors brushed it off as if I was mental 😔

Such an important video! Thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge with us! I had a Ferritin level of 8 and would occasionally have hgb 11 no doctor ever checked or considered my Iron was low until I asked for it to be checked after years of frustration. Iron deficiency is a global health concern especially among menstruating women and also highly prevalent in children…it’s so sad that our “health care” system ignores these common diseases and disorders!

Thank you for posting this video. I wish you could educate the conventional doctors out there and I had come across it months ago. It would have saved me a lot of unnecessary suffering. I just went thru this exact situation. I asked my doctor for an iron test 2 months ago and she wouldn't run it because my hemoglobin was still within their so called normal reference range. I ended up at Urgent care this week within the same hospital network with more iron anemia symptoms and the nurse flat out refused to run iron tests after she realized my doctor wouldn't 2 mos ago and instead ran the same tests as my doctor did. This was after the reception verified for me they would run iron tests before agreeing to be seen. The nurse first told me that they couldn't run these tests from Urgent care because insurance wouldn't pay for them and then after I told her I would pay for it myself she still refused! I ended up ordering and paying out of pocket for the iron tests at Quest and am so glad I did. So if anyone else is going thru this you can order a test online at Quest WITHOUT A DR and go to a local Quest to get your labs drawn. It was only $53.20 for an iron panel without insurance.
